I just checked the latest M6800 bios version release notes (A15):
    http://www.dell.com/support/home/us...800-workstation&languageCode=EN&categoryId=BI

Where it says: "-Fixed CPU may stay at low speed after resume from standby."

Unfortunately I'm already on bios version A15 and I still have the problem...

As for as being designed to say at 800mhz on battery, that's not right. When booted fresh on battery, the "balance" power scheme will let the CPU jump around based on the load. This issue happens specifically after waking from sleep.

See @r00bin 's post. I have an M4800 rather than M6800, but I can tell you that behavior is not intended/by design. A 17" mobile workstation that ships with a 240V power adapter is intended to be able to perform, albeit briefly, when on battery.

fyi, I actually get rather spectacular battery life ~6.5 to 7hrs browsing chrome...It's actually longer than what I get with my surface pro 3.

Yeah I wish Dell hadn't stupidly decided to make Optimus impossible to use with the QHD+ M4800 - I can only eke out about two usually, but I'm almost always plugged in.

My main point was that battery life will be quite short if you're loading the CPU, GPU, or both, but you should be able to take advantage of the horsepower available until you run out of juice or plug in.

You mean the refresh w/ the 4k screen? Not really sure as it doesn't help me any (unless I can convince Dell to let me trade in my machine for one w/ working Optimus which was heavily advertised as a feature of the machine when I ordered it, with no asterisk or other indication that it did not apply to the QHD+ model).

I read when they upgraded to newer edp, qhd got to use optimus.(was a quick read, I will see if I can find the source) Yes it sucks when they initially have a seperate board for qhd.
I never really deal with dell, but they may "fix" it if you complain? Idk, xD

I found a solution to the problem I was having with slow login on battery!!!

It was due to the latest SD card reader drivers. http://gnawgnu.blogspot.com/2014/01/fix-for-wake-after-sleep-freeze-on-dell.html

I installed the version they talk about in the thread DRVR_WIN_R293340.EXE 3.0.07.19,A00 from http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=N0X8T

and BAM, everything is speedy on battery.

Seriously a joke for high end hardware..I can't believe Dell doesn't check these kind of things.
