I went ahead and placed the order for the Samsung 850 EVO mSATA 500GB SSD and the Dell 240W power supply.

    Thanks everyone!

Does the M6800 eSata Port support multiple eSata drives connected via an eSata port multiplier [http://www.addonics.com/products/ad5ehpmeu3.php]? I have a M6500 which I can plug the device into the eSata port put the eSata port is not a port multiplier so I am unable to see 5 individual eSata drives plugged into the one eSata port via the Port Multiplier device.

Also are the mSata, two 2.5" HD and CD Rom bay all capable of Sata III speed?

    Thanks

Yes, all drive bays of the M6800, including the mSATA, are SATA 3.

I just rang up Dell to get a quotation for a spare part. The part number is TCDC5 and its a "DELL PRECISION M6800 Palmrest, Finger Scanner, Speaker, Touchpad".

I was told their warehouse no longer stock them. Wow... is the M6800 obsolete already?

They are still selling M6800 so obviously that part can still be found somewhere. You might have to call around and see if a different rep can find it.

Are you trying to upgrade to add a fingerprint reader? When I ordered my M4800, the fingerprint reader wasn't easy to find as an option on the web site, I had to call the rep to get it added. So maybe that's not a very common option these days.

(If your system already has a fingerprint reader, you could call regular support, as your system should still be under warranty.)

I'm trying to add a fingerprint reader. Since the M6800 is still a current model I was surprised by the response. I might give your suggestion a try and call in again to see what happens.

My previous attempt to get the nvidia gfx heatsink assembly was also quite a task. Lucky for me back then, there was one stock left in the warehouse!

24/7 - Latest update, I called up Dell Spare Parts again. The answer I got now is, I am unable to purchase it as a spare part if it never came with the system.

Thought I'd come here before trying to wade through Dell's tech-support hell: Has anyone had issues with the media keys being non-functional on their M6800's? Mine stop working every so often, and the only (temporary) fix I've found is reinstalling the audio driver. Anyone else had this happen?

Hi. I've bought an M6600 fan for my M6800, but sadly it does not fit. They have a slightly different casings (the lower screw is positioned differently). The part number is correct, so I'm clueless...

How did you actually manage to put this fan into your M6800?
