M6600 Owners Thread

Jimbo007 - the 7k1000 from Hitachi are awesome!
I use them in my M6700 as a RAID-0 (2x1TB + mSATA) and they work like a charm!

 

I have been thinking about buying a backlit keyboard for my m6600. I've seen some on ebay for $26. Will these keyboards just plug in and work in my non- backlit m6600?
My keyboard has one small ribbon cable but no seperate cable for lights.

 

Correct, just swap and plug the backlit one in and it should work, the cable is the same.

 

I have a question about the Intel i7-2860qm (sr02x) cpu I want to buy for my Precision m6600.
In this data sheet it lists physical memory as 16GB.
It is below the L3 cache area of the chart.
Shouldn't it be 32GB?

Speaking of CPU upgrades, which quads are known to work in an M6600? It looks like the officially supported models are the 2620qm, 2720qm and 2820xm. Are there any others that will work? How hard is the upgrade? I've upgraded the CPU & GPU in an M6400 before, and it was no fun.

 

They all works afaik. From 2630qm to 2960xm.
Can be said as easy, I mean there aren't any easy breakable parts or stupid clips, just follow the manual and take off the screws.

This chip does handle 32GB of ram as specified on Intel's site. I don't know why it says 16GB physical memory though. Maybe a 16GB memory module?

 

I was recently looking at the motherboards for the Precision m6700 and it looks like it will fit into a Precision m6600. I might want to try this upgrade to use the next generation CPU. Has anyone tried this motherboard upgrade?

Cool idea, but the mounting holes around the CPU look completely different. Too bad as on a casual glance, the layout looks pretty much the same.

I should check for an early M6800 board which might have had a separate 10-bit display connector IIRC.
Edit: Checked and the layout is completely different (the CPU socket was moved) so no dice.

 

Hello. Is the Display Port on M6600 is version 1.2? In other words, if I have AMD M6100 can I output 3840x2160 with 60Hz?
