M6600 Owners Thread

Do you know what slow format doing? It only tag sector as free nothing else. When you do slow formating all sector will be rewrite to "0". SMART can find fail sectors better. Of corse you can use HD Tune for getting this information but it is 3 times longer.

 

If there's bad sectors I wouldn't use the drive for anything. Slow format won't fix a failing drive.

If there aren't, a quick format is fine.

If the drive is suspect, do a quick format and then chkdsk /R afterwards. (I do this for all new drives if I have time, saves time on return if a drive happens to have bad sectors upon arrival.) If bad sectors are discovered, it will be shown in the report at the end of the process.

If there are bad sectors, if you are lucky, they will have all been discovered and you can now use the drive normally. My experience is, bad sectors aren't always discovered on the first try or more crop up later. Like @alexhawker recommends, I would not use a drive that has bad sectors.

 

Am I crazy, or is Eurocom selling 980M upgrades for the M6600?

The 980M is out of reach, but maybe, someday, the 970M might be within reach for me...

I am giving serious thought to swapping the GPU in my M6700 once Pascal mobile GPUs are available, it looks like they include appropriate screws and thermal pads here, I might check them out when it is time.

 

Hi, I have problem with my M6600. I had 2x4GB and 2x8GB in slots. Now I can use RAM slot B and C, but when i put next RAM to slot A or D it shows RAM error by LED signals. I tested all RAMs and they are working. It happend when I took it from my bag.
I read some informations about that. It could be MB or CPU error, but i don not think so this will be problem.
Please help, Thank you.
And of corse I NEED more then 16GB.

I wrote I had 24GB together and I have 2920XM. It worked normal unit now.

 

I would try power reset or CMOS reset. Do you mean it just boot up one day and stop working?

Ram can fail... My m6600 had a DIMM go bad and of course it was one of the ones under the keyboard... the dell diagnostic memory test is worth doing of you suspect a memory problem
