Samsung, Sandisk or Crucial MLC SSD's. (No Kingston!) Checkout the SSD Forum here: SSD Forum

16GB RAM is good to go for a I7 processor.

I have 16GB of Kingston Hyper X Ram (4x4GB) and it works fine. The Hyper X has a new name now.

From memory the M6600 can only take up to 32GB of RAM and while some people say it can handle 1866 Mhz others say the max is 1600.

As for SSDs I would recommend Samsung. Their 840s are really good value now as they have just launched the super fast 850s.

Watch out for the 840s. Lots of issues with old data reading back extremely slowly. Stay away.

That issue is for the 840 Evo drives, not the 840 Pros.

Interesting, I did not know that about the 840 Evos and 840 Pros.

For what it is worth, I am very, very happy with the Samsung 850 Pro. Really impressed.

I've only heard good things about the 850 pro, but personally will stay away from anything 840.

    Err, what?

There is nothing wrong with the 840 Pro!

Buyer beware though, there are consumer grade 840 TLC and 840 EVO TLC. They could have differentiated them a bit to avoid confusion.

I just wanted to post an update so anyone with my question will have an answer. My 210 watt PA-7E Dell adapter that came with my M6400 works fine with my "new" M6600. Normally the M6600 takes a 240w PA-9E adapter, but my dual core M6600 doesn't seem to require the full wattage and the connectors match. Based on the benchmark numbers I'm getting, no throttling appears to be taking place. Might be a different story with a beefier CPU or GPU, though. Now I just need to transfer my old SSD and HD to the new laptop.
