I have an after market Samsung 830 series SSD, very rarely I could hear a faint squeal. It's super low and intermittent. I also had a Crucial M4, Intel 5 series, and a few OCZ Vertex SSDs, and they all did the same. I do have pretty good hearing though. :)

The high pitch noise may be from top area the IPS panel. I have tested six of these LG panels with three different M6600's and they all make an audible noise that is linked to the voltage lines feeding the backlight portion of the display. Although somewhat muted by the display housing, without the bezel installed and with the panel separated from the rear cover, it is very noticeable. Likewise, running just on the battery makes the pitch of the noise more apparent compared to when the system is plugged in. I suspect there is a noisy/dirty DC line feeding the display, but I am still looking into this. I am also testing how much of this noise leaks over into the webcam mics, which are only 2 inches away.

Reading back over the threads from this year and back, I noticed that earlier this year (2012) there were some problems with screen flicker on the M6600, is that still an issue?

I have that exact problem. Much more noticeable when on the battery, but I am always plugged in, so it really doesn't bother me much.

It was brought off ebay, so no original owner info etc. Nothing wrong with the machine.

New M6600 owner here. I apologize in advance if this has already been discussed before--but there's loud fan sound from something underneath the number keypad, and the only thing open is IE running a flash game. After playing the flash game for a while, laptop also gets very warm. This is not normal right? From my one year experience with M4600, which is real quiet most of the time, I had higher expectations. I'm not sure how Dell is going to respond if I take this problem to them, should I just return it? Any advices?

    Thanks in advance.

I would check what are the CPU and GPU temperatures for the laptop and also maybe check for dust in the heatsinks.
