I knew it. Nice anime btw. Have both seasons.

Back to the topic, I've been looking for an ssd for my system. Was planning on OCZ vertex 3 but seems it has way too many problems. (crucial m4 or intel 510 not available here, can import them tough but will have to spend a premium which I don't have atm.) Any advices??

One more thing the new patriot wildfire looks like a nice device but it uses the same sandforce controller that the vertex 3 uses. what are the chance of it having the same bsod problems as the ocz? (I'm new to ssd so don't know much about 'em)

    There's a movie, too.

BSOD? If it's on resume, I think it was a firmware thing. Otherwise, OCZ is quite popular enough that any issues will likely be reported sooner rather than later, and in larger number.

Patriot Wildfire is a bit too new to comment on except that it's supposed to be a higher-tier unit (supposed to be equivalent to Max IOPS on the OCZ side).

Would suggest an Intel 320 if you're looking for the reliability aspect. Even though it isn't as fast as the newer generation SSDs, it's still faster than regular laptop HDDs.

As much as I like Seagate, would discourage any sort of Segate Momentus XT hybrid drives due to some huge issues with them (corrected in a sub-optimal way with firmware, keeps spinning up and down).

They are yet to spot the true cause of the problem.

I'm preferably looking sata3 drives as the difference in price ain't that much but in performance it's considerable.

You cannot compare Ghz comparisons across processor generations anymore.

Intel switched their branding with Core 2s and every generation thereafter because they could no longer increase Ghz without going outside the power envelopes that they could reasonably have attached to desktop/laptop.

For the most part, every new generation of processor from Intel is faster than the prior generation even at the same Ghz speed.

So to answer your original question, the i7 Sandybridge chips in the m6600 will trounce your overclocked core 2s in every benchmark you throw at it.

The m6600 can only handle one processor as is the case with every laptop out there that I am aware of. That being said, all current processors have multiple physical cores which means for example, that a "quad core processor' like those i7s in the m6600 have what would have been thought of as 4 physical processors back in the day. There are some differences with the analogy -- for example shared cache and how the bus is handled between processors -- but largely the analogy holds.

Maybe I was right about omitting the Seagate after all. :D

As I mention elsewhere, the Scorpion Black or new Samsung 1TB drive is the route I'm going but I have not heard of anything specially wrong with the Seagate Momentus XT. Exactly what have you heard?

I've read mixed reviews about momentus xt. Recently i bought a scorpio black 750gb for my m6600, it's really fast. It's cheap too.

I'm about to order the m6600 but I hoping to get a couple questions clarified.

    1. Is the SATA 3 SSD option a descent SSD (compared to the Crucial m400 or intel 510 series or the OCZ vertex 3 drives?)

    2. If I choose not to have a second drive, how easy would it be to install the second drive myself?

    Thanks.

Very easy, remove battery + take a screwdriver and remove bottom cover. Then put HD in.

Are there mounts for the drive to stay in place that require extra screws or any extra hardware?
