At dell.com, click Technical Support (up top), usually click drivers and downloads or something will prompt for a Service Tag. At any rate it's a little clumsy. You want to look for a link that says "Support History & Parts Dispatch Status" enter some info (again a little clumsy) but eventually you'll see what has been serviced through tech support. On a refurb or outlet machine I don't think this previous info is suppressed.
Add dell.com to any browser privacy or pop-up blocker allowed settings.

Edit: "Support History & Status" or "Support History & Parts Dispatch Status" or try this direct link: http://www.dell.com/support/incidents/us/en/04?c=us&s=bsd&cs=04&l=en

    Hope this helps.

ok thanks for that since clicking on your link things are fine now.

is there anything that can to be done about the usb issue. or is it just a quirk and its fine to leave it as it is?

Withe a12 Bios, i had issues with the fingerprint reader. It stopped working.
I has to reinstall the drivers all over again to make it work but still, once I deactivated the optimus option in the Bios, the fingerprint reader stopped working (FIPS)

I think it is fine, everyone has it. There is probably an adjustment in the registry that would hide it - I've yet to find it though. Normally that safely eject icon should not be there, annoying when first realized. I did notice that (and it's been awhile) reinstalling windows without yet any drivers, as soon as the chipset software is installed that icon appears. I also tinkered with the device manager usb devices with no luck.

Add dell.com to any browser settings that could inhibit the smooth operation of the web pages for there, e.g., privacy, pop-up blockers etc.

Ok...thanks I did not realize that some of the information coming from Dell tech would be only opinions or educated guess.

    How naive I am.

    Yikes!
I updated my IPS machine to BIOS A12 without any problems, it's been over a week since - still no trouble.
Planning to do the /Optimus enabled machine this weekend. I'll post the outcome.

I see that Dell hasn't removed it so there isn't a serious problem with it - been up for awhile.

Probably best when doing a firmware update to get the machine as close to its default use state - things such as Optimus On, ect., SATA Op should be able to be left alone, and unplug all external devices. I even disconnect the external mouse. And run it from an administrator account, not standard account. Just mentioning this for anyone reading.

I also updated Premier_Color_1.02.032_Setup_ZPE.EXE last week - nothing notable for that.

    Also up this weekend: VIDEO_NV_W74_A05_SETUP-N2CK6_ZPE.EXE

    Fingers crossed!

    Edit: Also disable anti-virus realtime.

Help Me Choose: Displays | Dell

That option is usually absent for AMD. I don't know how you get one with that configuration.

I got curious about IPS screen since I did not see it in any of the options for the M6600.. They are out of stock and it is no longer available on the M6600.

You have to go with the M6700 and if you select the IPS RGB LED options it will not work with the AMD card. You have to select an Nvidia card.
