There is no IDE mode in bios settings so i had to use ahci even though crusial said it was mandatory to use ide mode...

Does anybody know hot turn off the screen auto-dim functionality to stop brighness throttling ? I really miss the hotkey ...

    NOTE: Advices to users:

    1) go install Nvidia Verde driver, it's performing slightly better than stock drivers.

    2) check your bios version, recent update on DELL M6600 support page.

    3) Don't change default CPU number for boot via MSCONFIG / boot options.

Can you tell where exactly? I looked there but couldn't find it (Win 7).
    Thanks, sorry.

EDIT: I've probably found the control, buried into "DELL System and Device Manager", it's just terribly translated in italian ...

In plan settings i see no check to toggle auto-dim on/off, just manual brightness slider (same as hotkeys).

However i think i solved the problem the other way (via DELL System and Device Manager), thanks.

I have had a painful experience ordering the M4600. After an estimated one month delivery time, I was just told that there will be another two week delay.

I would be happy to cancel the order and get the M6600, but that is showing a month month lead time. What are people's experiences in the actual delivery time?

The only reason that I originally opted for the M4600 is because I was worried that the M6600 might be a bit too big to carry around. I have a D830 now. That machine is said to have a weight of 6 lbs (same as M4600), compared to the 7.5 lbs of the M6600. Then again, I carry around the D830 with a second battery at all times, a heavy leather bag, and the power brick and the weight has never been a big deal to me.

    Any thoughts?

the m4600 is bigger than the m4400. i'd say its as big as my colleague's 16" sony vaio. you can check out the pictures that iieeann posted in his user review thread.

plus the m6600's power supply is really a monster.

    7.5 lbs? No way!

My M6600 weights 4,75Kg, which equals to 10,4 lbs i bet.
That including AC "slim" adapter and cable of course, which are 1Kg = 2,2 lbs alone.
The notebook contains 1 Hard disk only, Mouse not weighted :)

I just weighted also my Targus backpack containing a M6400 (which weights approximately the same as the M6600), plus AC adapter, 1 more battery, mouse, pad and a couple DVDs.
The whole stuff weights 8,7Kg. = 19 lbs.

If you are concerned about portability and weight i suggest to think twice.
17" Precisions are powerful workstations, but moving them has always been a matter of accepting compromises.

    Hope this helps ;)

BTW: They promised me max. 21 days for delivery, but i received my M6600 after 36 days from order, due to parts shortage. That was for Italy.

I did another chat session today and was told that as long as it is returned within the first 21 days, the restocking fee does not apply.

There was a 30% coupon on the site but that apparently went away yesterday. The rep I chatted with gave me a quote that was only around $100 more for the config I did with the 30% off. I haven't kept an eye on dell coupons for around 7 or 8 years. Do you all think that another 30% coupon is likely to come back around soon?
