It would not be fair to give you a comparison, I am still in the process of migrating, and I have not had the chance to work with it enough to give a good assessment.

Maybe I will have my wife do some photoshop work and I will give you HER feedback. I mostly use this station for big virtualized environments.

Well, I was not so lucky with the EDD. Still need to drag my current Vostro 1710 for another month.

Hope you get lucky with the EDD of your order.

I got my m6600 yesterday, and have had two days to set things up and play around with it. Configuration is i7 2820QM, 2x4GB RAM, 3000M and the regular 1080p screen. It also came with a docking station and a U2311H screen. The biggest reason for choosing the Nvidia is that I expect to use the CUDA capabilities in the coming three years, and didn't dare to hope OpenCL will cover - Matlab already supports CUDA.

Biggest disappointment is not the fault of Dell, but rather my university account manager, who ordered a regular HD instead of 128GB SSD. I'll have to upgrade for my own money when I can I guess, it is really holding this thing back.

I am generally extremely satisfied with the quality so far. My previous computer was a Vaio 17 inch multimedia laptop, and the differences in quality and aesthetics are incredible. The screen is way better than the glossy screen of the Vaio - sharper, better colours and no glossy reflections. I do notice a little bit of flex in the keyboard on the middle left side, but nothing that bothers me. The machine is also absolutely gorgeous - the only other computer I have seen which can compare is the Macbook Pro.

    Now for a question:

I'd love to be able to install Ubuntu in a separate partition. Previously Ubuntu with compatible drivers was available from Dell for the m6500, is this still the case for the m6600? If yes, where can I get it from? If not, will it become available in the future?

    cheers

Hopefully you could get yours soon. As for me i have already told my rep that I would like to have it under 3 weeks. He said he would try that with all possible means but the thing is that these systems (precisions) are imported from Malaysia and not made in Chennai, so not sure.

Would be of great help if you could share only the EDD once you get the same for your order.

As far as I know, the precision series alongwith all the 17" models (like my Vostro 1710 or the current model Vostro 3750) are imported into India. They have a separate logistics partner with no tracking facility for the buyer unlike the orders made & dispatched from Chennai plant which you can track online through their partner's website.
