@Aikimox 200mhz is an improvement but would you know if that would make a substantial difference in real world performance I dont have much experience with those nums so practical info would help

@MoldCad I appreciate the response it was helpful but is there a reason you havent upgraded A04 yet and I expect you use Cad so what is your analysis of the 2920 in high end aps such as max or revit if you use those

I google translated a review of the m6600 for all interested

this is the link from the site
Dell Precision M6600 (i5-2520M) Notebook im Test Große Workstation mit Anschlussvielfalt auf notebookjournal.de

A few months ago we were looking at the Dell Precision M4600 exactly. Basically, these are the little brother to the now in our editorial office received Precision M6600. Not only is the form factor of 17.3 inches is excessive, and the remaining dimensions are XXL. When the display is closed, the device measures at least a thickness of about 4 cm. Accordingly, the weight of 3800 grams saturated with strikes book - the power supply weighs 1030 grams even further Nevertheless, not only the performance and the display, but also the connectivity of the advantages include the M6600 from Dell.

    Dell Precision M6600 Spezifikationen (i5-2520m)
    - 17.3 Zoll FullHD LED display (1920x1080 pixels, matt)
    - Intel Core i5-2520m (2.5 - 3.2 GHz)
    - AMD FirePro M8900 (2048 GDDR5 VRAM)
    - 4 GB DDR3 Arbeitsspeicher (max. 32 GB)
    - 500 GB Festplatte (7200 U / min.)
    - DVD-Brenner, Webcam, Cardreader, Smartcard Slot
    - 34/54 ExpressCard, PC Card (I / II) slots, WLAN b / g / n, Bluetooth
    - HDMI, VGA, 2x USB 3.0, 2x USB 2.0, 1x eSATA / USB 2.0
    - Kombiport, GBit-Lan, Dockingport, DisplayPort, 2x Audio

Prior to contact Intel Core i5-2520M delivers a good performance. But above all, the AMD FirePro M8900 a brute performance. Originally designed for the business market, the AMD FirePro M8900 uses the same graphics core as the Radeon HD 6970M, and therefore has a similar performance profiles. Sun grants the 3DMark06 score of 16 703 points very good - and even at very high detail rate is high with World in Conflict very playable 52 fps. Besides the processor and graphics card can also transfer rates can be the hard drive from the house to see Seagate. Rapid 113.3 MB / s reading and 102.6 MB / s writing speak for itself for a HDD.

The waste heat in idle mode, despite the high consumption in the acceptable range. At the top and bottom, we measure 33.2 ° C and 36.1 ° C. Even the background noise when using battery power in sleep mode, like with 25.6 dB (A) very much - but on closer listening, we notice on our test model a low constant hissing. In contrast, Idle already doubled the volume audible at 35 dB (A) and also a regular ebb and flow of the fan speed can be heard. Under full load, finally finds the cooling of the Dell Precision M6600 their master. We determine a maximum at the top and bottom high 38.3 ° C and 49.5 ° C. Finally now also reached the unmistakable noise 47.9 dB (A). In a lengthy stress test, we also meet here to CPU throttling, which reduces the maximum clock to 1.8 GHz - seems in practice, the performance including but not suffering.

The large 17-inch display has a good average luminance of 256.5 cd / m². Thanks to matt the site selection panel effortless. Also the contrast ratio is outstanding with 968,9:1 at maximum brightness - even at 100 cd / m², the contrast ratio drops to remain very good 666,6:1. While the side viewing angles are very stable, invert the colors of the viewing angle up and down relatively quickly.

All in all, the Dell Precision M6600 extensive and powerful workstation. The high mobility is limited by the weight, large dimensions and short battery life. These amount to only 246 minutes (4:06) when idle and 96 minutes (1:36) under load.

But at a workstation include other values. A high performance, a convincing display and a variety of connection options, we can predict the Dell Precision M6600. Also, the complete chassis, which consists of an aluminum / zinc alloy, is very solid. When the input devices are also allowed Dell does not make mistakes and, as usual in the business sector, not even a trackpoint.

Our test unit is from 1849 € (as of 25.09.2011) to have. At Dell, it is directly from 1499 € (as of 25.09.2011) configurable and also available with Intel quad-core and Nvidia Quadro 4000M card - but the emissions are likely to rise significantly.

The 2920xm usually runs between 2.8 and 3.0 ghz. It takes a lot to slow it down to its rated speed. No overclocking. Just stock from Dell.

Dell has never released an IPS screen in the Precision line until this generation of the M4600 and M6600. The previous screens were RGBLED backlit TN panels.

Yes, I am very confident in my source for the date. My guess is that it will start showing up on Oct 31.

K Im wearing the dunce hat on that one

I meant the 4600 with the ips but I did think the 6500 or 6400 had ips so Im wrong about that and I know dell doesnt actually make the screen but I would think that the 4600 ips would be similar at least in color gamut with the larger version coming with the 6600 on nov 1

Real life performance difference is 0%. In fact, even the difference between the 2760QM and 2960XM is negligible. It makes sense go for the extreme CPU only if overclocking is unlocked, IMHO.

While I agree that real advantage of the Extreme version comes with the possibility of overclocking it, I cannot agree that my 4 million FEM problem would solve equally fast on the 2760 as id does with the 2920XM :)

If you don't mind me asking, who is your source at Dell? Is it simply a sales person or someone higher up. If it is someone higher up can you tell us a little about their position? Dell Mano G agreed with the end of September but its still not here.
