FYI, my 2920XM under 24+ hour long, continuous 100% load still clocks at 2900 - 3000 MHz (this alternates once every several seconds, and probably is temperature-driven).

Or to be more precise: the multiplier alternates between 29 and 30, for all four cores of course.

My 2720QM can only handle x25 to x26 ans that sucks.
I dont know why but the temperatures are fine so far between 76°C and 84°C.
So there should be a reserve but I never saw more than steady 2500 and 2600 MHz on all 4 cores. I have revision B2 of the Intel Qm67 Cougar Point motherboard.

OK, but you have saved some $$$ by not upgrading to the Extreme CPU, haven't you :)

Speaking of turbo modes, it's also nice to see the multiplier in 32-35 range (for 1-2 cores loaded only, though)...

I'd be very happy to have a BIOS upgrade allowing to unleash the 2920XM's full potential!

Yes of course, but the 2720QM CPU should reach 3000 MHz with multiplier x33 on all 4 cores. In my case it is only x25 and 2500 MHz.

Has anyone re-pasted their CPU/GPU with IC Diamond and have some numbers to go with it?

I'm wondering how it compares to Dell's thermal pads (which seem to be decent).

The hardware support center at work tested out every thermal paste they could get. They use the paste Dell sends us to keep in our parts locker. They insist that it is the best paste they have found and use it on thier own custom gaming rigs.

I repasted my 2920xm and the temps are close to the same. The only benefit over the stock thermal pad is that temps are more even between cores.

I will ask the hardware crew if they have tried the diamond paste.

The difference is the 10 extra watts the 2920xm is allowed to pull vs the 2720qm. That is why the extreme edition is always running at higher speeds.

That is not the correct answer to my question.
I dont want the 2720QM to be as fast as the 2920XM.
I want to get the power the CPU is specified with.
    Look:
    http://www.notebookcheck.com/Intel-Core-i7-2720QM-Notebook-Prozessor.40109.0.html
    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Core-i7-2720QM-Notebook-Processor.40110.0.html
So the 2720QM should handle up to 3000 MHz on each of the 4 cores.
Mine handles only about 2500 to 2600 MHz with multiplier 25 / 26.
That are not even nearly the specified values this CPU could reach.
The temperatures are ok, what is the bottleneck?

    Thanks.

I'm satisfied with my 2720QM M6600 with its good performance and good battery life.

    Contact Dell support.

Also run full diagnostics to see if something shows up.
