Her guys, first post here. My work approved me ordering a M6600. Question, is it better to do a reinstall of the OS when you first get the machine to get rid of the Dell bloatware or is there stuff in there that is useful? Here are the specs of the machine I ordered:

In my opinion it is always a good idea to do a clean install of a new computer.
I ordered mine as FreeDos for example cause I knew I would do a reinstall.
Further my premiss is to install only the most necessary software on a new computer.

That has always been my philosophy as well, I have just never had a notebook of this caliber before. I am coming from a Latitude E6500. I just wonder about drivers and such for the touch screen.

What are you planning to use this laptop for? Unless you're a graphics designer/architect or something like that, going for the touch screen is a waste of money im my opinion. Take out the multi-touch display, go for 4GB RAM, use the saved money to get aftermarket RAM and an SSD hard disk to be used as primary. I'd also upgrade the HDD from 320 to 500GB as the difference in price is minimal.

If you do need/want multi-touch, don't go for a reinstall unless you have time for it, at least I wouldn't reinstall. Any bloatware can be removed if needed, doing a reinstall for that reaosn is an overkill if you ask me.

Thanks for the input. I got the touchscreen just because I could, not because I needed it. In fact, I am a network admin, so nothing I do is really resource intensive, I just like having the baddest machine I can get. I will be replacing the HDD with a SSD that I will be purchasing, so I am sure that will make a difference.

    Well well well....

For my screen problem, Dell propose to me a full refund of the laptop.
They will see that with my resseller, I'm waiting now...

This is so bad for a such laptop, just due by these so stupid issues...

Well, this means you will have to reinstall the OS anyway so here's the answer to your original question. I wouldn't be replacing the HDD entirely, I'd go for a 500GB and place it as a secondary to store large files like movies, MP3's, ISO's etc.
There's one more thing about your config which I hadn't noticed until now - upgrade to quad-core CPU, do NOT get a dual-core. You will only be able to use 2 of 4 RAM slots with a dual core, not to mention that this CPU is very weak for an M6600.

Were you able to order your M6600 without windows?
I've been wanting to do that, but could not find such an option.
