Yes, but I I bought my laptop from a reseller and not from Dell direct.

Thanks, I did not pursue that option...
I'll have to keep it in mind for the future.

    You are wellcome.
It was way cheaper to buy the Dell Precision M6600 from a reseller compared to the prices on the Austrian Dell homepage. I could save hundreds of Euros that way.

I tried this when I dropped in Extended Battery Life mode.

I upped the refresh rate to 60Hz from 40Hz. It seemed to stop flickering for around 20 seconds, upon which it resumed flickering.

I'll investigate turning off the lights.

Glad they are refunding the purchase price to you. Just remember, most people not seeing the issue you were seeing. Maybe there was a hardware fault with it.

I have personally worked with 4 M6600s and have not seen any issues with them.

    Winger,

Although it might not be significant for your long-term storage, you should be aware that supplied hard drives from Dell can be SATA II (3Gb/sec)--even though the system supports SATA III (6Gb/sec).

Here is what HWinfo64 reveals for the two drives (excluding DVD burner) that came with my M6600:

    Drive Controller: Serial ATA 3Gb/s
    Drive Model: Seagate ST9320423AS
    Drive Revision: D005SDM1
Drive Serial Number: [removed for posting]
Drive Capacity: 305,245 MBytes (320 GB)
    Drive Capacity [MB]: 305245
    Media Rotation Rate: 7200 RPM

    Drive Controller: Serial ATA 6Gb/s
    Drive Model: LITEONIT LAT-128M2S
    Drive Revision: PMD9
Drive Serial Number: [removed for posting]
Drive Capacity: 122,104 MBytes (128 GB)
    Drive Capacity [MB]: 122104
Media Rotation Rate: SSD Drive (Non-rotating)

    Outside-the-notebook storage is a 1TB Western Digital 7200 rpm 6Gb/sec Caviar Black in a dual-fan Thermaltake Max 5G external enclosure (USB 3.0; 5 Gb/sec).

    Same here.
In this mode, even if you block at 60Hz everywhere, it will change nothing (for me it is).
Turn off all the lights isn't a solution. Just think that: If you are in a room, with, maybe, 20 peoples, you will say "Hey guys! I need to power off all the lights in this room! It's the night but no problems"
I think you will not do it^^

Ok, maybe a "no luck" for me (a bad series).
Dell hasn't confirmed the refund yet, I must now their decision today.
I will, maybe, buy an another M6600, with I hope, not this bug (if they refund me).

My plan is pretty much to use the SSD as the primary, but use the SATA drive for storage. Unfortunately, this config is what I ordered, so I can't really make any changes. I wouldn't say that this processor is "very weak", at least not for what I will be using this for. If i decide to upgrade later I can.

Thank you for your input, I appreciate it.

    EDIT:

Can anyone recommend a SSD? It doesnt need to be super big, probably a 120GB, but I want it fast. I saw that someone said that this laptop supports SATAII, but I thought I had read it supported SATAIII. Here is the drive I was thinking about:
