While it may have made it "less bad," flickering remained apparent even with all lights off (and a 60Hz refresh rate).

It's pretty close from what I see. Maybe we got a "serie problem", very no luck in that case xD

Dell-Mano_G assigned my case to Andre Passee at Dell, who contacted me about resolving the Chi Mei and triggered the service order.

If I recall correctly, Andre is involved with quality assurance for the Dell Precision series. Mano is a senior product manager at Dell. I'm very appreciative that he pays attention to what Precision users are reporting on this forum.

From the outset of our phone call, Andre emphasized replacing the Chi Mei quickly (I could either send back my unit or have a tech come to my location).

It's a great credit to Mano and Andre, as well as Dell, that they completely avoided any effort to persuade me to be content with the Chi Mei display.

A local service technician representing Dell worked for about a half hour to install an LG replacement. The LG is clearly superior to the Chi Mei.

Mano may assign a different person to handle your display upgrade. Your account representative at Dell can help you contact Andre, or you can use the email "syntax" for Dell employees to send a message to Andre.

I haven't spotted any specific answer to your question, so I'll respond:

Start > All Programs > Dell System Manager > Dell System and Device Manager: Select the third box called Keyboard Backlight

You can change no activity time out to as long as five minutes.

The Dell application does not require an explicit save step, so you can Exit once you complete the changes.
