With the M6600 couldn't seb87 choose the 3000M today and then in a year or so just change to the 4000M or 5010M if prices come down? What I mean is aren't the graphics cards very simple to change (they are not soldered in) on the M6600?

I have the controlvault fingerprint reader driver installed

The problem is the dell site does not offer the APPLICATION that i need to setup security and fingerprint scanner for windows logger.

I had M4500 before and I used the controlpoint driver and application that was both provided in the site. But those dont work with M4600.

I called the tech support and they got no idea...

    PLEASE HELP

Yes the nVidia MXM card in the M6600 can be upgraded later so the 3000M is a good middle-ground option in my optinion.

    string97bean,

SATA with Roman numerals can be confusing and leads to "that's not what I meant" errors, at least for me.

M6600 handles 6Gb/sec controllers, as well as the more common 3Gb/sec controllers on older drives. The CD burner from Dell is 1.5 Gb/sec.

Transfer rate depends upon the drive you are using. So, when you install a 3Gb/sec-rated hard drive or SSD into either the primary or secondary drive "slots" of the M6600, you won't get 6Gb/sec performance.

I use the Dell-supplied 128 GB LITEONIT LAT-128M2S (6Gb/sec) SSD as primary drive. Subjectively, overall performance is satisfying compared with my former dual-processor Opteron workstation with hard disks. LITEONIT is not stellar or best of class, although it outclasses hard drives. Disk Mark is 2139.4 on PerformanceTest 7.0 (evaluation edition).

Kensington HyperX SSD drives, as well as the OWC SSD with Sandforce 2282 controller (256 GB) have my current attention for future upgrade based upon published reviews; no personal experience with them thus far.

You might want to read the SSD thread under notebook accessories for further recommendations.

You need to install the 3 items under "Dell Data Protection" (driver, then middleware, then application) on the drivers & downloads page on Dell's web site...

The Intel chipset supports up to SATA-III; thus it can fall back to SATA-II since that is part of the operational standard. In response to your question, I use nothing but the Crucial M4 and the Intel 510 series in my notebooks (see below). I have no issues using the SATA-III SSD's as the primary OS drive and the SATA-II mechanical HDD's as the secondary drive for storage. The M4 is very snappy and reliable (WEI - 7.9). The 510 is only slightly slower than the M4 in real world use (WEI - 7.8), but is second to none in regards to its reliability and warranty.

With that said, I have (2) extra 2.5" Intel 510 250Gb SSD's "as-new" in their boxes I am going to sell if anyone wants them. They were imaged and used for less than 10 minutes in a test server demo and come with the 3 year Intel warranty. All the desktop adapter goodies (3.5" adapter, SATA power pigtail, sticker, fasteners, etc) in the boxes remain sealed/unused.

Contact me with a reasonable offer if interested in one or both.

    Scott-

Windows 7 recognizes it as a Mobile Broadband Connection, so just the builtin software.

You need to set up the properties with a Profile with the APN, and username/password if necessary.

I also installed the generic Sierra Wireless AirCard Watcher software, but I don't use it explicitly -- when Windows makes the connection, the Watcher software also sees it and you get a little pop-up, etc.

I see that M6600 handles 6Gb/sec controllers, as well as the more common 3Gb/sec controllers on older drives but are all the dell supplied SSDs 6Gb/s

And if dells LITEONIT is not stellar or best of class would it be true that the 512Gb SSD from dell is not best of class
