They flew someone out to Wyoming to look at a customer's computer. They halted shipments of the panel due to the quality issues. They have asked people with the panel to contact them so that they can get a replacement.

If this does not show you that Dell cares about people that use the Precision line, nothing will.

Seriously! I am certainly a believer now, after my own similar experience (ironically also involving a bad screen, IPS in my case). My only hope is that Dell maintains this level of excellent service in the years to come and does not let it go down the toilet like many other companies have.

    Hey everyone,

received my M6600 yesterday. Of course I was a bit nervous about the build quality, the keyboard and of course the screen. I have read so many negative things about those in the last time that I was really a bit concerned and already thought about the possibility to return the system. Well, a lot of negative thoughts...

Then, I finally opened the Dell box and had a look at it.

I was positively surprised! The build quality is very good and is on the same level with the W520 (had the one of my brother for a couple of minutes in my hand). The keyboard is very good (no mentionable flex at all)- though I have to say that I have the back-lit one. So no problems here!
Also the ports seem to look very accurate and represent a high quality.
The noise of the Notebook is very low. In the beginning I did not even realize a bit of fan noise...there was just none!
The battery life (out of the box battery charge) is pretty decent too (I have the firepro card). I get around 3 hours with light surfing and decent screen brightness.

    So then the screen...

Hm, well this part was the one with my most concerns to be honest.
My first impression here is good, but not perfect as I would like to have it in such an expensive business machine. I see a little bit of a grey shadow and also a bit of a blueish character here. Question: How can I check what kind of screen I have? After what I read here before, Dell will change the screen if its one of those Chi Mai- ones.

Well, for all that are interested. I am a bit sick today and staying in. So if anyone has certain questions regarding the machines or wants pictures/videos... just let me know.

    Have a good one!

BTW: Are there any things that I should do with my new laptop? Updates, re installs, etc.

when you close this you see a second screen. Look at the monitor part there, this tells you wich screen you have.

I always do a reinstall, but not before i backup my original harddisk image.
Takes some time, you could also just install all windows updates. and perhaps tune windows a little.

Dell-Mano_G, I have the ChiMei display on my M6600 and I am seeing the hazy display as well. However, it appears I don't have permission to Private Message on this forum. Is there an alternative way I can contact you? Thanks.

I run both AutoCAD and 3D Studio Max and they both work fantastic with my FirePro M8900. Compatibility has not been an issue at all for me so no need to fear.

I LOVE how fast my M6600 renders compared to my old laptop!

Jup, I got the "wonderful" ChiMei display too... Send a message to the Dell representative here. Lets see how long it takes them to respond.

But makes me really feel like that I made the right choice with Dell and M6600!
