Is it possible to disable the multi-touch feature? I don't know if I want/need it, but I'm willing to pay the extra to make sure I get a good screen since I need to order it relatively quickly. None of the multi-touch screens have the CMO problems, right? (I think for the one data point I read, it was an AUO). Thanks.

I would recommend waiting a week. Supposedly the IPS display for the M6600 comes out on Sept 11th. The IPS will blow away the standard AOU or LG panels and only cost a couple hundred more than the touch screen. Definitely worth it!

The main problem I had with IPS screens that because of some interference you could not buy them with 3G modems as the antennas messed with the screen.

Now if I read it right in the hp section a guy has a 8560w with IPS and 3g modem inside and it is working well.

If Dell lets IPS screen and 3G modem to be ordered together I will be tempted.

Is it possible to buy an IPS screen as a part and build it in in the place of my LG screen (is it not thicker?)?

    Hi there all,

I'm gonna plunge into the deep side of investing in this premium laptop, and I've read here about changing the screens. I was wondering, is the CPU and GPU upgradeable? I'm kinda hands on with my PCs, but have some (okay, little) experience in opening up a laptop, so would it be difficult changing the CPU and GPU on this monster.

The unit I'm getting is pretty much the most basic of all, due to budget constraints, but might upgrade in the future as they get easier (cheaper) to obtain aftermarket.

    Thanks all!

If the Quadro 3000 is overclocked until it reaches the same temperature as the stock (non-overclocked) Firepro, then how do the various benchmarks compare?

Yes. All the systems come with a RAID controller. I ordered mine with just one drive and the RAID function was fully functional. It would be pretty lame for them to disable the RAID controller just because you didn't order two drives. What if you wanted to upgrade later?

However -- if you don't order the second drive, you don't get screws for the second drive mount. Make sure you get those from somewhere (they are standard screws for 2.5" drives.)

Does anyone else notice a flicker at the low brightness setting? If I go all the way to the bottom on the screen brightness, I get a very persistent, annoying flicker. I have to go three "clicks" above bottom to get rid of the flicker.

Will get my M6600 in two days and I would like to put the old SSD from my t61p as a storage in it... do I need to look out for something here? Do I need a caddy or something?

Something else. Do you think I can upgrade the Screen to IPS by calling Dell? I have pro support...
    Thx.

Two things I would highly recommend.
First: Put the bootable HD in the hot swap bay. (HDD01)
Second: Switch to AHCI in BIOS because there is standard RAID.

In my case I already had a caddy built, although I ordered my M6600 with only one HD.

Hi everyone. I have a question about the M6600.

I'm looking at getting a Precision for my next laptop but I'm balking at the $400 price tag on the Blu-ray drive. Looking around, it is not hard to find a standard slim SATA BD-RE drive for $200 or less.

So, I was wondering does this machine have a standard "slim" 12.5mm tall optical drive, that could be replaced aftermarket? From the pictures I've seen it looks easily removable but I cannot tell if it is the standard 12.5mm or maybe something "simmer" with the SD card slot and all jammed above it.
