If he decides that I do not get a replacement display I can pay out out of my own pocket.

    //EDIT
I got an answer from Dell:
My display will be replaced but he could not promise me that I will get the AU Optronics display which I have been asking/begging for.
Several times I mailed him AUO B173HW01 v.5 with Dell internal Code H8D3K v.5 lets see whats gonna happen.
I also wrote him that I wont accept another Chi Mei for my Dell Precision M6600 but he could not exclude receiving another Chi Mei.
Tomorrow I will get a call from a serviceman.

    By the way:
The Chi Mei display is listed for the Dell Precision M6600.
I have complained that the Chi Mei display is designed for the Dell XPS 17 and got the answer that it is also installed in the M6600.
So it is not a mistake to find a Chi Mei in a M6600 - unbelievable...

Yeah, I got no promises either what screen I will get. But I think my screen is a faulty one even as a Chi Mei.

Lets hope we get lucky in the screen lottery in the 2nd time trying...

Good luck with your screen replacements guys...

The LG/Philips panel is also very blue - I've had a service call in for weeks now to have it replaced with an AUO.

The Dell service guys sent an engineer out to me and assured me the replacement would definitely be an AUO - instead it turned out to just be another LG.

Bottom line is I'm still waiting for an AUO to become available. The LG may have other qualities that make it "better" than the Chi Mei, but it's still unacceptably blue as far as I'm concerned (see earlier post )

    Cheers,

    J

If you think the AUO is not bluish, you will be disappointed :)

You have one and it is blueish? The white by me is a very light but noticeable blue...

Yes it is blueish - nothing that couldn't be calibrated with proper tools though.

Even without any specialist tools, I removed some of the blue tint using Windows Color Calibration.

I tried to do that in windows color calobration, but as I slided back the blue things got ugly (blue went, but so the other colors).

Yeah - this is why specialist hw/sw is a must... But it also is indispensable even with IPS screens (imho, the only real benefit of HP's Dreamcolor is 10 bit color - but even this is not taken full advantage of due to other limitations; still 8 bit is better than 6, of course).
