    Oh, we are neighbors. :D

So do I, but I wont accept the fact having received such a bad panel for so much money. I mean, what about demanding premium?! As Scott already mentioned: This Chi Mei is not premium at least not premium enough for a business notebook like the Precision M6600. The more I brood about it the angrier I get. A waste of money this display.

    Another theory:
Everybody who ordered his M6600 with ATI FirePro has built a Chi Mei display.
    I dont know...

If I read it right Star Forge has M8900 and AU Optronics ... I have the bad feeling everyone might have gotten this Chi Mei screen in a time period.

My idea was that the preconfigured M6600's may have been built with the Chi Mei displays to give Dell a cheap "quick-ship" option for the 2-day shipping, but after seeing the configurations in the sigs of the two people that have them, that doesn't work.

Looking at an HP Elitebook 8760, but looking at the owners thread for them, sounds like people are having similar issues with HP that folks on this thread are having with Dell.

Why is it, when a company ships their production and support to Asia, the quality and service drop through the floor?

A year ago I had an issue with a brand new Dell Optiplex tower at work, wouldn't boot at all. I spent over 2 1/2 hours on the phone with Dell's "technical support" that consisted of someone reading out a scripted guide, (after getting transferred and calls dropped 4 times).

They kept passing me back and forth between hardware support and software support, saying it was the other departments problem. I finally got it elevated to "special support", who then tried to tell me that my boss would be have to be charged for the phone call, since software support wasn't covered under our business warranty, just hardware. That was when I just hung up on them, pulled out the media disks, and spent 3 hours re-installing Windows 7 and the rest of the software.

Sorry for the thread drift everyone. Just getting tired of big companies providing garbage products and expecting everyone to say "Thank you Sir, may I have another".

I bought the 16GB RAM myself aftermarket.
I got my Dell Precision M6600 only with 4GB RAM (2+2).
The Intel Postville G2 is from another Notebook.

My problem is that it used to be:
You get what you pay for!
Now I spent over 2000 EURO on this machine and have at best a middle class display.

Ummmm... Dell Workstation Support is located in Florida. HP's Workstation Support is in India. :p

I had two M6600's in July. The first one I got as a System Exchange from Dell had a M8900 and LG-Philips. The current one that was configured correctly on the CPU department from Dell has an AU Optronics and a M8900. I really still think the Chi Mei screen was a horrific mistake Dell made.

" Ummmm... Dell Workstation Support is located in Florida. HP's Workstation Support is in India. "

Okay, then I stand corrected, thanks for the info.

All I know, is after talking to "Bob" who sounded like the 7-11 owner off the Simpsons, and "Imra", another lady with a very pronounced Indian accent, plus chatting with "Princess Jaya" on the Dell support chat while asking some questions about the M6600, it's kind of hard not to assume Dell's service is in southeast Asia somewhere.

Well all the people I have talked to for my services were from Florida and very Caucasian. Try calling 1-877-671-3355 x7244444. This said department is the Workstation Team I dealt with for my M6500 and M6600 and they told me they are from Florida.
