The M6600 is using the AU Optronics B173HW01 V.5 panel, which is not IPS. It is an excellent 72% gamut matte screen, but I have changed mine to the V.4, which is the 92% gamut higher brightness/contrast glossy panel. In my opinion, it is the next best thing to IPS and will hold me over.

Site on where you ordered a panel? I might be interested in myself to acquire one.

My company usually gets 5 to 20 panels every other month for various uses. They come from a distributor in Taiwan near the AUO factory. The only issue is making sure you specify, stress, and receive grade A+ panels, which can be hard depending on the current demand for these panels from the big boys like Dell.

My last batch of 20 panels were good except for three that had 1 to 3 stuck/dead pixels. They were all legit Dell spec'd X919N panels so they are plug and play with many models like the Studio 1747, XPS L701/2, and the M6600 without any firmware ID or warranty issues.

One popular seller that is used a lot by NBR members in the XPS threads is below, but the quality/version is hit or miss and the shipping fee is typically almost as much as the panel so it is more cost effective to do a group buy.

By the way, did anyone who has had the pleasure of exploring the interior of their M6600 notice the additional video panel header on the system board just above the standard LVDS header? It looks to be an eDP (embedded display port), which is the needed foundation to tap into a compatible video card's higher bandwidth streams to support 120Hz 2D/3D panel operation.

Like Asus, Dell uses the LP173WF2 (D/PN C30PY) panel for 120Hz 2D/3D models like the XPS L702x. I explored this panel HERE. I have confirmed this panel will also fit fine in the M6600 and would provide a very smooth video solution for those of us who do a lot of editing work. 3D would not be a focus for me, but would be possible with a simple USB IR emitter and active shutter glasses as long as the GPU supports the mode (almost all NVidia cards do these days).

The one obstacle I see is getting the needed cable to feed the 50pin connector on the back of the LP173WF2 panel if Dell will not offer it. I have checked the 120Hz/3D cable used on the L702x and the system board side uses a slightly different header connector so we are close yet so far away.

I would love to enable 120Hz panel operation on the M6600; even if to stay 2D. The XPS L702x is a dream with this panel installed (and the color is almost as good as the AUO v.4) so I do not see why we cannot make the higher-end M6600 capable.

I guess it is time to put on my 20 year old ham radio hat and fire up the soldering iron if I cannot source a readymade cable.

So you can get a glossy screen with the M6600? Together with its nice brightness that makes it really tempting!

Hi, I am the new guy in the block, struggling between the Quadro 3000M and ATI M8900 for my M6600 order.

As far as I read on the forum, the ATI M8900 cannot utilise the IGP of the i7, while the Quadro 3000M & 4000M can; what I am wondering is whether the M6600 can use the Quadro card for modelling and gaming on one monitor, and at the same time use the IGP for displaying web pages and such on a secondary monitor?

One of the reasons of me upgrading from the M6400 to M6600 is a stronger video card, and using dual monitors are a must (even three monitors sometimes). If by running two monitors, the M6600 will only be able to use either the dedicated graphics card or the IGP, then I might as well go for the M8900.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Yeah that is why I am always a bit hesitant to order these. At least Dell is guaranteeing for the lifespan of your warranty that their 72% panels are warranty replaceable if even a single dead or stuck pixel appears, so you can always rely on Dell having A+ grade panels around.

Also, the M6600 can come with a 1080p LG-Philips Panel as well.

I had the M4400 with the glossy screen. That was my least favorite thing about it. It just reflects ambient light and creates unwanted glares.
