After thinking about it some more and reading the brochure, I feel my M series is inadequate.

The M6400 is certainly a beast! However, the brochure mentions the quad core QX9300 processor as an option so I don't think it's going to have two separate dual core processors. You can buy 500GB laptop drives now, so two of those in one laptop will give you 1TB. The price and power brick are sure to be heavy! :p

Let's hope this thing will start lower then the price of Lenovo W700.
Although doubt it will drop below 2k.

None of the features you mentioned require having 2 MBs.

What a weird configuration that would be. Honestly, I'm pretty sure it will only have one MB. The quad core has 2 dual cores, but that's because at the moment intel only sells quads based on two combined cores.
I guess more than 2 HDs is possible if the m6400 also has a multi-bay like the hp workstations has. Then you can remove the optical drive and replace it with a third HD.

    From PC Magazine:
The Precision M6400 is Dell's premiere 17-inch workstation. This laptop runs a quad-core processor, but oddly enough, it's not Intel's newest Core 2 Quad-Core Extreme. And it's not a desktop processor either. This laptop is unique in that it runs two Core 2 Duo processors for a total of four cores, so it's like having two motherboards in one system. With this arrangement, the M6400 can support up to 16GB of memory! That's double the maximum count on a Centrino 2 platform.

Aha, again weird, but cool. :)

On the other hand does that mean that you can - if you have the money - put in 2 quad-cores for a maximum of 8 cores?

    THAT would be a beast.

I don't know why this PC Mag writer thinks that the M6400 does not use a Core 2 Extreme Quad Core - the specifications PDF clearly lists the QX9300 as one of the options.

I had seen that story before, but they seem to have changed their minds now.
