Yes the QHD+ panel on the M4800 is an IGZO panel. Same panel is used on both the M3800 & the M4800.

Well, I put in an order for the M4800 with the QHD+ screen so I hope I like it when it arrives.

Hope I don't miss the Optimus when I'm travelling. There's a $150 off coupon and I found a 10% off coupon but I couldn't stack them. Too bad. Would have been a sweet deal.

Looking at my signature, is it worth taking the plunge and upgrading from the M4600 w/ IPS to the M4800 w/ QHD+?

Does the QHD+ get the full color gamut and allow for calibration? I know the ultra high-res works for the Adobe suite, but how does it work for Autodesk Maya? Fuzzy? Can that simply be remedied by changing the resolution?

Does the Haswell chip and DDR5 GPU make it no contest?

Well, I am behind the time, and didn't do my homework.

Bought an M4800 with QHD+ recently, and the non-native resolutions are just not sharp (tried 1920x1080, 1600x900, and others).

    Is there a driver solution?

I bought the machine mainly for programming work, and would spend most of the time looking at the code. So the 1920x1080 resolution would be perfect. (But somehow I thought this 3200x1800 support was for external displays...)

Unfortunately that's just normal for running a non-native resolution on a LCD panel. You can try running at the native resolution and bumping up the DPI scaling value in Windows which will make everything larger. Setting it to 167% should give you about as much working space as you have on a 1080p display at 100%. How well this works depends on how well your apps support high-DPI display — ideally, everything will be very sharp and still large enough, but some apps behave poorly (elements may not be increased in size, or they make look blurry, or they may be outright broken). Hopefully this situation will improve over time as high-DPI displays become more common.

Otherwise, going to have to deal with the non-sharpness (until app support for high-DPI improves), or return the system for one with the 1080p panel.

Thanks for your help, Aaron. I raised the display DPI to 150%, and now it looks a lot better. There are some font issues, but overall acceptable for my work.

As for running a non-native resolution on a LCD panel, I used to switch between 1920 x 1200 (native?) and 1920 x 1080 on a desktop monitor (a Dell), but don't seem to remember noticing any sharpness difference.

    Anyway, thanks again!

With the horizontal resolution the same, you'd only get non-sharpness between vertical lines, if that makes any sense (and only 120px difference might make it not that noticeable). The more you have to blow the image up to fit on the screen, the more blurry-looking the output will be.

    Anyway, glad it worked out.

    hello everybody,

I need some help i'm in uni in engineering and was looking to buy an m4800 to replace my really old 690 tower...as i'm further from home than last year and need a bit more power...and my uni has a really good deal with dell.... anyway after reading through most forums first put off was the lack of optimus support for QHD+...and i told myself FHD is fine for me...

But recently i have read on spiceworks that a lot of people have been having trouble with BSOD and just freezing out of the blue 30 people aprox...there is a dell rep on there trying to cool every one down but a lot of them have sent their machines back or got replacements...FROM what dell is saying its a hardware problem.

how many of you have had this problem or are experiencing it and how many have a system that at least is stable! A lot of pissed people as they are workstation stability should not be an issue....

Just Seeing if im going to order one ( i can get the i7 4800MQ, k2100, intel wifi and 9cell for a modest 1600 euros)
That forum does not inspire faith wheras here im more inclined to pluge and fix minor bugs ....

Hi screwdrivr, I can tell you my personal experience with this workstation: I study a Master in Engineering and I have the version with QHD+ screen with W8.1 Pro installed. I use every day Simulation softwares such as Comsol, Matlab, Simulink, Spice, Coventor (and Photoshop too).

Apart from some intrinsic lacks of W8 (in terms of compatibility with these programs) I have never experienced BSoD on my M4800. I often put it in sleep mode, and I've never had blue screen or any errors/problems at restarting. And also I've never had problems when I use it with maximum stress: some simulations on Comsol take more than a hour with 98% of Ram full and 95% of CPU: the 2 fans work very well and keep the temperature cool all the time without problems.

I bought the workstation with the last Bios version already installed: so I think that the problems you described happened on the earlier Bios versions.

Hoping that my very good experience could be useful for you!
