You have a link to the thread on spiceworks?

I've had some BSOD's, but it's been fairly stable most of the time. I was holding out hope that some updated drivers would fix things.

EDIT: I'm guessing this is it? http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/391875-new-dell-precision-m4800-few-probs-should-i-send-back

Yes that is the thread from spiceworks...have read through most of it and dell rep says its an isolated case, but evidence strongly suggest otherwise... 8/8 dell m4800 from one order had the issue....

would explain why there are dell workstation sales...

My theory is that there is a faulty batch of MB's and that dell wasn't planing on using the 3200*1800 display when they set out to design the laptop...

dell decided to replace my faulty m4700 with m4800. So HELLO m4800 people.

Although there had been a YEAR LONG problem with dell's machine... m4800 is a great machine. Will I recommend dell to others for doing this? NO.

Got a shipping notice on my QHD+ M4800. Supposed to be delivered tomorrow instead of Feb 7th as per my order.

That's a pleasant surprise because I was reading of delays on the M3800 thread due to the hi res screen but I guess it's with the glossy touchscreen they have and not the matte one on this machine.

I hope that I'll finally be happy with this 4th computer (Lenovo T540p, E6540, FHD M4800).

@Jumbie: I was reading the same thing before and I am happy that M4800 seems to be more reliable, also with deliveries.

I will keep watching here (M4800) and there (M3800) while trying to figure out what is best for me: it is not only a matter of specs...

Keep posting also good stories if everything is good, please.

    Thanks

    @gibi,

I'm just reading the spiceworks thread and have exactly the same problem.

No BSODs, just a simple freeze about twice a week. No warning, no event log messages, requires a hard reboot.

M4800, i7-4700MQ, Radeon 5100M, 8 GB, 1920x1080 FHD screen. Added an mSata boot drive, and kept the original Seagate 7mm hybrid drive as a secondary data drive. All the latest drivers installed. Frequency of freezes seemed to decrease when I updated the BIOS. Temperatures normal: ~50C on the desktop, rising to 70C when gaming.

Will watch this and the spiceworks thread with interest.

Got the new machine this morning. Not much time to play with it yet but on cursory examination, the QHD+ screen is miles better than the FHD one.

I think I'll be happy with this computer as that has been my quest all along - to get a good quality screen. Is it the best? Probably not. But it seems like a pretty decent one to me. I'm not working with graphics/video so I don't care about accurate reproduction very much,

    Jumbie,

I am thinking about the M4800 too.

Be curious to know, during your testing of the M4800 with QHD+ screen:

    1. What windows - control panel, DPI setting ,you end up using, so that fonts do not look too small to you ?

    2. Also, be interested to know whether or not, you find the common pgms that you use honor the windows control panel - DPI Setting or whether some issues arise with the font size in some pgms that might not be HiDPI aware.

I just received a new m4800 yesterday and the FHD screen is very disappointing with a bad "screen door" effect. Because the notebook is otherwise excellent, I am willing to keep it and order a replacement FHD screen. The B156HW01 V.4 screen here for the m4700 (non-IPS) looks promising, but I haven't seen it in person and am looking for specific replacement recommendations people have found to better than the default m4800 FHD screen.

    thanks
