This is why I returned my one with FHD and got the QHD+. Pretty bad screen. The E6540 had a better one which I wouldn't have expected in a lower class, less expensive machine.

You know those mesh doors that you use to keep bugs out of your house? It's a fine "woven lattice" for lack of a better description. Well, the computer screen has that effect where you can see a fine grid pattern up close.

As a former owner of a B156HW01 v4 (matte) and current owner of a v7 (glossy), I would say they're both about the best TN screens you can get IF you don't mind the oversaturated colors on wide-gamut screens (esp. the excessive reds) and possibly minor tinting (in my case, also red) visible on perfectly white backgrounds.

Otherwise brightness is good, contrast is very good (esp. on the v7), and the v4 has good coating (no screen door effect).

    Calibration is essential.

Thanks for the input. I think the my previous notebook (Lenovo T530) might of had a B156HW01 v4 screen which other than a slight yellow tint I found to be really great. I ordered the v4 but I won't get it until next week so I'll have to put up with the default FHD screen for a bit longer.

I'm still playing with the machine trying to see what works best. Kind of busy with work so reinstalling everything (swapped to my own EVO 840 500GB HD) is taking a while.

So far, I'm experimenting with using native resolution and scaling. I tried setting it to 167% which is equivalent to FHD resolution but Chrome is already giving me issues with that in that clicking on the "x" to close tabs doesn't work at all. Have to right click and select close. I just switched to 150% and that works but I'll have to see how that goes with being able to read text.

I'll also try running in non-native resolution at some point.

    Hi Jumbie,

As you get along in your evaulation, please keep us informed of your findings and conclusions of the M4800,

    BTW,
    1. Do you have Win 7 or Win 8 on it ?

2, If running Win 7 on it, what is the Max DPI setting that Win 7 lets you specify (I am still on Win XP, thath is why I ask.)

    Hi,

I had the same issue with M4800 FHD and I've finally decided to get Asus N56JR, it has pretty good screen.

    HW info:

    LG Philips LP156WF1
    [DELL P/N: MC6JN]

If you have Fry's or Newegg near you, you can take a look at this screen, because they should have this Asus laptop in stock in showroom.

There is a "custom" option where you can enter any DPI value that you like, I know it works up to at least 200%.

Has somebody tried (and achieve) the replacement of the FHD screen by another display ?

The aforementioned AUO B156HW01 V.4/V.7 seem to be very great by specs (500:1 contrast, 95% adobeRVG covering, great view angle for TN technology) and that's confirmed in many test :

Review Schenker XMG P511 Notebook - NotebookCheck.net Reviews
    Review Dell XPS 15 Notebook (i5-2410M & GT 540M) - NotebookCheck.net Reviews

The only remaining question is : will it fit in the M4800 case and the LVDS cable be good ? I read on many website that this AUO display equiped some batch of M4700. According to M4800 & M4700 users manuals, the two latops have the virtually same size of screen and the replacement procedure is the same. So... Why not ?
