    Sorry, I don't have Optimus, so I can't really help.

    Not sure if this is the right thread for this but I've been eyeing this machine for a while. I put one together in February but didn't end up pulling the trigger cause I figured I could get by for a while longer, and was hoping if I waited I'd be able to get a break on the price. Now in October I check back and see my total price is higher despite having to downgrade a couple things (such as the 1tb hybrid drive which is no longer offered.) Shouldn't the price on something like this have gone down over the last 8 months, not up? In both instances I was getting a 30% instant savings, so it's not a matter of a better deal going on at the time. Considering this has been out for almost a year now does anyone know if it's due for a price drop?

    Finally made the order after considering it for a while and leaving it too late to get customisations before I have to leave the country.

    Am hoping to upgrade:
    8gb = > 16gb

    and add a 256Gb SSD

    But I really have no idea what memory or SSD would fit.

    Also any suggestions on how to structure the hard drives in the machine. Remove existing 512gb hybrid and use as an external? Remove optical drive and have both.

    Any suggestions greatly appreciated

    For RAM, you're going to want DDR3L 1600 memory, which should be 1.25v or something like that. Just search for/make sure it's DDR3L and you'll be fine.

    For the SSD, I would buy an MSATA SSD. They are typically similar in price and almost identical in performance (if not actually identical) and they go in a special slot that would let you keep both your 500GB hybrid drive as well as your optical drive.

    Eh. Close enough. lol. I knew it was somewhere around 1.25 or 1.3, but I was too lazy to look it up, and knew if he had the DDR3L it would be fine. Thanks for the clarification though.

    Can anone tell me definitively if the M4800 with the 3200x1800 screen will drive a Dell 2560x1600 monitor like the U3014 at a reasonable (~60 Hz) refresh rate? I've tried searching but can't find anything authoritative. Thanks.

    You might as well want 1866MHz memory, for up to 15% more performance.
    Just saying. ;-)

    Not that this could be of any consolation: My impression was that the best deals were over the summer. And M4900 can be expected no sooner than in early 2015.
