    Hello friends,

I am not working with graphics but rather a software developer. I've settled down on buying the m4800 as it seems to be a powerfull and reliable workstation.
Now I wonder whether the QHD is worth ordering or I should just go with the cheaper FHD? Specifically I'm interested to hear on how does the FHD screen performs when used outside. A video review of the QHD I've seen somewhere stated that the QHD looks rather good outside.

    Thanks,
    Michael

So maybe ditch the 32GB memory in favor of the QHD+ ?? 3-Hour battery life seems like a pain, but I guess it would be enough if the screen was really that much better. I might call HP today and talk to them about the zbook 15 g2. The m4800 is a nice system but it feels like Dell has not put much thought into it. More a recycled M4500

If you consider that Dell have been essentially been using the same design since the M6400 of 2008 vintage, then yes, Dell have been very stagnant over the years.

Maybe my unit was a crappy one, but I've had since April and it's already had a motherboard and display cover replacement. I also find that the keyboard can be patchy, I seem to have the infamous double keypress issue as well.

    YMMV.

This is difficult to answer reliably as you will get one of several LCD models. But it seems that Dell chooses bright panels.
I haven’t tried mine outside yet, only indoors (though next to a window), so I might just keep quiet; but should it be of any help, my screen shines so bright at 100% that it literally hurts my eyes—albeit indoors, but even when it’s sunny outside.

I was hoping I could ask this someone who uses M4800 like that: Can the beast cool itself reliably with the lid closed, even under heavy load? (Temperature of 60°C or more under the lid would reportedly threaten to damage the LCD…)

That's good enough for me I guess. Thanks for answering!

I rarely have it on full load, but it seems to do fine when I've gamed on it with the lid shut. No LCD damage.

What's the cheapest dock I can purchase (even if it's from ebay and without a power cord, assuming I can use the one that came with my 4800)? I am getting a bit tired of unplugging everything every time I want to go mobile :).

I'm just having a hard time verifying what models I can even google for.

    Thanks.

yes I'd take QHD whatever you do, but if you want battery life then not. (I get 4h on max load with slice, and around 6h on med with QHD) if you make display savings right and CPU caped youll be ok
