After long conversation with Dell, the are telling me that Optimus is not supported on m4800 with either FHD or QHD display.

They clearly don't know what they're talking about. It's enabled with FHD, and impossible with QHD+. Period.

I was particularly annoyed when I found this out, since Optimus is so brazenly advertised as a feature, with no mention of the QHD incompatibility.

I have found that there is a direct relationship between the cluelessness of your Dell rep and their perceived confidence level.

The real idiots will boldly and loudly assert that the sky is green. The savants will quietly let you assert whatever you like, and attempt to correct you later, without you noticing.

Optimus is fully enabled and completely functional on my FHD M4800. I can show you glxinfo from the Haswell IGP and the K2100M to prove it.

I didn't think Optimus was supported on the m4800 model, at least according to Dell it is not.

Read above. It is for the FHD screen.

This pretty much sums it up. With the FHD screen I'm getting around 6 hours of typing/surfing (9-cell battery). I believe you'll be lucky if you get half that with the 4K screen.

I'm typically seeing 2-3 hours depending on load, although I'm almost always plugged in, and always on the high performance power profile.

So BIOS A09 has been re-released. (Reportedly on Sept-1, which I don’t think has really been the case.)
And by its checksum, it appears to be the same file that had been pulled.

The Dell’s driver library for M4800 appears to linger on in a protracted state of disarray. :( For instance, the driver now visible as current for Intel HD 4600 when you filter for Windows 8.1 64-bit is one or two releases old, and by its version number identical to A00. (And it is shown as released on Jul-30, the day Dell’s driver maintenance for M4800 apparently went bananas.) This is really disheartening. M4800 driver maintenance appears to be in the hands of people who cannot keep their act together.

    Thanks everyone,

I chatted online w/ Dell support, they sent me the link the the Dell Webcam Central install files and they overnighted me a replacement screen.
