I've only had "real" haggling success with Dell with server purchases.

Tried to get dell rep to come down with the price on a stripped down M4700 (3840QM, 1920X1080, K1000) but no dice, just a bit lower than ordering direct online ($1,750 for bare bones).

Dell Outlet. Wait for a new 3840QM K2000M SSD FHD. Or a fleaby aggregator of DO. You might get lucky and get a BD burner... I did. Swapped out the panel for an HW01 and slipped in a 256GB mSata. With aftermarket mods included I ended up around $2K.

Impressive, didn't see anything even remotely appealing re: M4700s on Dell Outlet, mostly i5s or i7 3700 series processors.

Off of eBay I came in at $1,595 for 3840QM, K1000 (wanted lower 35W), 16GB, 256 SSD, webcam, backlit, etc. Will pick up a 256GB mSata for $200, $1,800 total.

via Dell rep. I was looking at $2,100 with base 2GB RAM, so $2,200 with 16GB 3rd party RAM.

Save a bit of money, but more importantly, get the machine in 4 days instead of 2 weeks+

p.s. eBay sellers must stalk Dell outlet 24/7 and grab these primo machines that I never saw ;-)

I think the aggregators selling D.O. machines on eBay negotiate bulk purchases. I got my M4700 through an aggregator on eBay, new, with D.O. packaging. You're right about 4 days max vs. weeks. I drive external DisplayPort displays, so I was keen on the K2000M. Dell finally has a docking station with USB 3.0 and two DP ports.

    Hello everybody,
I am new to the forum and just became an owner of a 4700 system.
I have a concern and I wanted to express it here and ask for your advice. Some of my system's keyboard keys don't sound right.
The space key for instance makes very sharp metallic clunking noise as if it's missing some kind of soft plastic padding or
whatever makes other keys soft and quiet. The sound is immensely annoying and feeling is very unpleasant.
I wonder if that is by design or my system's keyboard is missing that plastic part.
Since I am going to type quite a lot the issue that seems so miniscule at first may become a serious one for me. Could you check your laptops and let me know, please ? :)

Right, I have a 23" LG monitor that I travel with(6.5 lbs) K1000 is plenty for that; maybe dual or triple monitor setup would require the K2000.

Trying to strip it down as much as possible, my load (M4700 + monitor) is @4 lbs greater than M6700 with stock AC adapter.

    my M4700 arrived :)

I can confirm that the same backlit keyboard from a M4600 works in the M4700.

The Optical Bay Hard drive caddy I had in my M4600 also works great in the M4700.

just debating setting up two 512GB SSD drives in raid to make a 1 TB SSD array

Here are my benchmarks for the SSD drives

Tested the 512GB ssd from the main drive bay, from the Optical bay, and the 256GB mSata SSD drives, then finally the main bay and optical bay were configured in a Raid array and tested,

Not to be a jerk, but this is shady. If there is nothing wrong with your laptop you shouldn't be doing this. They have to make up cost somehow and it usually translates to the honest buyer.
