blueish hint is subjective - after i was looking at the precision for a while and i put it next to imac i thought the imac was too warm. but yes the M4700 is cooler in color than the imac, but i don't see this as a downside.

the contrast is decent. not as good as on apple IPS products like iMac, iPhone or iPad but i don't have any major problem with it.

the real problem as i see it is that colors are not saturated. this is most likely due to cheap backlight resulting in narrow gamut.

if you're comparing this screen to that on regular macbook pro ( not retina one ) i would say that it is WORSE when it comes to color and contrast, but maybe better when it comes to viewing angle and i like the matte surface.

this is not a good screen by any means - i would call it acceptable. i don't see anything wrong with it - it's just not a high performance one.

i wouldn't want to be looking at this screen myself. this computer is for my pops. i have 3 IPS screens for myself - 3.5" iphone, 9.7" ipad, 27" imac. in addition i use two TVs 47" and 55" as monitors and those are full array local dimming ones with 10,000,000 to 1 contrast ratio. i still think the iPad 3 is my best display.

on the other hand i wouldn't want to be looking at a 15" screen while i am at my desk anyway. i actually think my 27" screen is too small. so if i was using this laptop myself i would simply plug it into a display that was anywhere between 24" and 47" or so.

    so up to you.

I will calibrate then test mine when I get it. I got the TN 1920x1080 screen.

I ordered the M4000 (which should benchmark near a 7750M) and the docking station. When I get mine, I'll let you know. Also the K2000m should benchmark like the DDR3 GT650. NVIDIA Quadro K2000M - Notebookcheck.net Tech

My order is still in "preproduction" almost a full week later. Still listed as will be delivered before 8/24

    Frustrated with my Dell Experience!

Started a new software engineering job 2 weeks ago and placed an order for an M4700 on my first day. My sales rep supposedly expedited the order last Friday to "get it moved to the front of the line." Called yesterday to get an update and the rep drops the bomb that Dell cancelled my order stating that the configuration was invalid! Invalid? I created the configuration 3 times via the website and the rep was able to place the original order with the configuration...!!!

It turns out that Dell isn't allowing configurations with the min-card SSD as the ONLY hard drive. They are essentially forcing users to include and pay for an over-priced 2nd hard drive. So my rep tries to save time and re-places the order with a single 2.5" SSD and no mini-card on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that kind of defeats the purpose of getting the mini-card 256GB SSD so that I can include 2 additional 2.5" drives down the road...

I doubt there is a compelling reason that Dell is requiring the 2nd drive other than wanting the extra sales. The only thing I can think of is that they can't install the OS correctly with just the mini-card drive, but I'm pretty sure I've setup precisions in the past with just a mini-card SSD as the only drive.

So, I have the rep re-place my order a third time, with the mini-card and the cheapest Hard Drive option available. So, its now 2 weeks later and my order has been placed 3 times and is currently at the back of the line... All because dell is a bit greedy and their ordering process isn't flexible enough to have allowed us to add the 2nd drive mid-process. Luckily, I am able to actually get some work done from my home machine. Unfortunately, these are large set-backs for my employer considering I should have had my new machine setup and configured by now...

Very disappointed and frustrated with this experience, as I'm sure many other people who placed similar orders are! I very strongly considered cancelling my order and running down the the Apple store for a MBP as a matter of principle! Unfortunately, the M4700 is a much more suitable development environment for my needs! And that Wonky Keyboard! *sigh*

    Just thought I'd share...

hello, is this screen more or less the same as the one reviewed for the M4600? i assume it is.
Review Dell Precision M4600 Notebook - Notebookcheck.net Reviews

would you assess that the brightness and contrast would more or less correspond to what notebookcheck determined?

    thanks.

i have no way of making measurements. i found brightness to be quite good. i keep it closer to the minimum end of the backlight adjustment. of course i am indoors.

hello, since i installed a new ssd i got to the dell website with my sevice tag code and installed every driver which is listed for my system(not the general m4700 drivers, just the ones recomended for my service tag system).

will not work since it seems to be not compatible. i dont know if its important or not so i thought i ask you again if this driver is important or not.

by the way, tomorror a dell custom service guy should come to me to change/repair the monitor frame and the panel itself which had the color tint on the left and right side.
i really look forward to see if the ´"tinting" can be fixed or not.

You have the IPS screen? You won't need that driver. You only need it if you have Optimus enabled (and Optimus is not available if you have the IPS screen).
