g1981c, could you post a pic of the panel displaying something colorful. I want to see what the FHD non-IPS look like.

"upgraded" my 2 x 4GB crucial to 4 x 4GB crucial ( all sticks the same ). the Windows Experience memory rating went DOWN from 7.8 to 7.7 although it might have been some new drivers. well, no biggie imo.

    all other scores remained unchanged.

find pics online you would like to see and post link - i'll take a picture of them.

so far my impression is good contrast, nice matte surface without being grainy, colors somewhat washed out. all in all i am happy with the screen.

Anyone have experience running Windows 8 on the M4700? I've been doing iOS development for the past year or so, but my company wants me to start working on WinRT apps and WinPhone.

I have a 15" MB Pro, but the bootcamp drivers are out of date and who knows when Apple will support it with official drivers, also the keyboard doesn't match up well so I'm thinking about trying the M4700.

Win8 does run well in bootcamp, but I do experience crashes and poor graphics performance running the tablet simulator. There are times the touch pad loses its settings.

ok. i will do it later.

anybody know how to change the sensitivity on the little pointer thingy in the middle of the keyboard ? it's not sensitive enough. i already had it adjusted before i reinstalled windows but now i can't seem to find the adjustment - maybe i don't have something installed.

i have 3 pointing devices running at same time - an actual mouse, the trackpad and the pointer thingy. i want to be able to adjust their sensitivity separately as the pointer is least sensitive, followed by touch pad and the mouse is ok.

by the way i'm unpacking a 20GB rar archive right now and the cooling pad seems to be working. i can feel about as much air blowing out of the back as it did when it was doing windows experience testing but this same volume of air is accompanied with less noise. that is the fan seems to be working less hard but still moving as much air because the laptop is sitting on a mesh surface rather than on the desk. of course it could just be all in my head.

it seems that over the course of the day the laptop slid down about 1/2 an inch on the U3 although when you push it it doesn't slide around. rather seems to be slowly creeping down.

And that's why, WEI is a useless benchmark.

Considering on idle and on full utilization the power consumption of memory is a fraction of a W, you won't notice any benefit in terms of power or heat. But if the price is pretty much the same, then it doesn't matter which one you get.

you're probably right. the reason i was concerned is because i still have a xeon machine with rambus or some crazy ram in it, and that ram you can feel the heat of from half a foot away. but admittedly the heat is from the buffer or whatever chip in those dimms, and not the ram itself.

that netburst dual xeon clunker pulls 250 watts at idle. i guess i need to start getting used to how much less power modern computers use ... although my iPad3 also gets scorching hot when i use it inside the G-Form portfolio case, because it blocks pretty much 90% of its cooling.

ask and you shall receive !

    pictures of M4700 1080p TN Panel versus 2010 27" iMac ( IPS LED )

after taking the pics i realized iMac brightness was set lower, actually it was at the minimum the way i usually keep it at night. for proper comparison brightness would have to be matched of course, but we're not comparing apples to apples anyway here - an IPS panel to a TN panel.

as i previously said the colors on this TN panel look washed out. the viewing angle are pretty good for a TN panel, but obviously no comparison with IPS. the contrast is good, and i like the matte surface - much better than the reflective glass on the iMac.

at the end of the day you get what you pay for - the 27" apple display is $900, and that TN panel was a $50 option over the base non-HD display. it performs more or less the way i expected it to. certainly if you are a graphics artist this panel will not be good enough for you. but for watching youtube videos, even in HD, it is perfectly fine. i don't regret this choice.

I see what you mean. Compared to the iMac, it seems to have a bluish tint and less contrast. Is that for real, or is it just the camera?

I'm a developer, not a graphic artist, but I look at the screen sometimes 14 hours a day, for work and play. The TN panels on my W510 and MBP 17 (Early 2011) are acceptable, but the panel in your picture seems like a bit of a step down. I'd really like to be wrong about that, because otherwise I'm pretty excited about this batch of Precisions.

hmm, still no benchmark on M4000 or K2000m?
Seems like nobody bought the dock station together. Really interested to see how it looks like, because it fits M4600 too.
