Yeah I did find that site also. I'll be calling Dell on my side of the world in the morning. Apparently the guy at Dell US said he couldn't get the part number or any info on the part because it wasn't in stock, Weird.

Why are you eating through so many laptops?(!)

Complain away :D I too was expecting a bit more from dell at the m6600 price point and 3 replacements later I got what I was expecting. I'm not sure where you are located but in the US dell offers a no questions asked return policy so if you are not happy with the machine & Dell isn't providing the support you need just return it. You can always purchase another. Personally I would consider the screen flicker a fatal flaw myself and have the machine serviced or replaced.

Best of luck with your new machine.

    Started the year with:

Vostro 3350 -- Sold it after the warranty expired

Purchased D430 on ebay -- Wanted a cheap ultra portable to hold me over til I found a computer I wanted.

Purchased a second D430 on ebay -- someone sat on my extreme low ball offer until the last possible second on the first one, and I made an offer on the second one. Ended up with two.

Latitude e6220 -- Found an amazing deal on one of these on ebay with two years of warranty left (new in box i7 for under 600. Owner ordered it and never opened it. sold it a year later). Sold the D430 x 2.

Purchased the XPS 15 L521X -- Returned it due to the wifi and throttling issues.

Ordered M4700 -- due to arrive before August 24. This will be replacing a desktop / also be a mobile work and gaming station.

Purchased a 2008 MacBook -- got sick of my friends asking how to use their macs and I've never even tried a mac before. I hope this is a pre glowing fruit model :D

There ya go, more than 5 notebooks in a year.

well, i knew about it from the thread here
on this forum so its on the list of things which
need to be "fixed" (when even possible)a little bit
behind the other stuff which i try to figure out.

till now i did not worked on the dell but from what i can tell it seems to be nothing which i will notice while working with ps since it does not affekt colored areas that much like it does on a white one.

that there is such a general problem on such a expensiv device is for sure nothing which dell should be proud of.

    edit:
@g1981c: thx for the info. is there such a big difference with the 1,5 to 1,35V in case of temperatur?

with the ram i want to upgrade the base harddrive with a ssd and thought about buying the
    2.5" CRUCIAL 256GB M4 CT256M4SSD2
is there something i should be aware of with the upgrade..like size of the ssd ect?

edit: bought now the ssd and installed it. its bigger then the seagate 320gb harddrive so i had to remove the rubber underlay so that the crucial fit in.
i install now win7 from the dell cd..so far it seems to work how it should.

unfortunately they had no ram so i need to buy it another time.

    Haha, fair enough.

I'm gonna give the M4700/M6700 caddy a pass. I spoke to Dell here in the UK and they referred me to a 3rd party company that they're affiliated with, namely "Upgrade Options", upgrade.co.uk. I spoke to a chap there and they didn't, nor have they ever, have it in stock. But he offered me some sort of universal caddy for £89. If it costs that much for a universal caddy I don't want to know how much the Dell version costs!

You might have better luck in the U.S. If they do have it at reasonable cost there, I might get it shipped to the U.S. and have someone bring it across the pond for me.

Hi all - I have a question re: RAM Voltage as well. I have a spare matched 8GB pair kicking around that I want to use on my new M4700. Specs are: Corsair Vengeance Laptop Memory Kit 16 GB (2x8 GB) DDR3 1600MHz CL10 PC3 12800 1.5V. Will these work ok? I'd prefer to use 1.35V, given the talk about power/heat savings. But, it would be nice to not have to purchase another set if these will work fine...

    Appreciate your feedback!

Your specs seem to be the same as this Corsair module? These are the ones I got — running 4 of them in the M6700 and it works great, I think it should be the same for the M4700.

Yes, those are the ones. Glad to hear that they're working well in your M6700, I'd assume that they should be just as effective in the M4700. Thanks for your help!

don't know how much of a difference there is, but for me it was only 2 dollars extra to get 1.35V so i thought it was worth it.

last accessory came in today - Cooler Master NotePal U3

this notebook cooler comes with detachable fans but i'm not going to use them. i got it purely for its passive cooling. it allows for completely free movement of air in all directions under the notebook, plus provides an angle that some people may like.

while you may assume the main difference between U1, U2 and U3 to be the number of fans included - that is not the case. the main difference is SIZE. the U3 is largest BY FAR. in cooler master nomenclature 1,2,3 usually denotes performance or size, and usually all 3 models have the same number of fans.

this U3 will probably fit M6700 equally as well as it fits M4700.
