The WiFi antennas are actually up next to the LCD panel. The Bluetooth... not sure, I don't think it has a separate antenna attached so it would be down in the module next to the battery.

so you mean in the screen hinges somewhere ? i think that's also where it is in macbooks ?

the top of the screen seems to be made out of different material from different piece of same material. i was thinking maybe they put the antennas in the top part of the screen ?

I would like to know that too.

The M4600 had two different HD screen options, the 1920x1200 TN screen and the 1920x1200 PremierColor IPS wide gamut screen. It also had two different base units, one for each screen type.

I'm pretty sure that when the M4700 first came out, I checked the Dell USA site and the IPS screen was still an opton. he Dell France site however had only a single choice of screen. I assumed it had not been updated yet.

Today though I checked Dell France and there is only one sctreen option - checked Dell UK - only one screen - checked Dell USA and only oner HD scren option as well.

Have Dell discontinued the wide gamut IPS scren? That is a crucial requirement, for me. Or do they *only* provide the IPS option? (There only seems to be a single base unit choice as well).

I would appreciate someone from Dell commenting here, because the website is not clear and I'm trying to order one of these machines.

Well that is a bit awkward, but at least its an option for US-based purchasers. I verified on dell.com that selecting fingerprint reader adds an option for IPS display.

On dell.co.uk and dell.fr there is no fingerprint option (or rather, there is an item with one choice, 'no fingerprint reader') so I guess we just wait to the end of September to place orders?

    @ ChrisLilley:

you asked that some time before and i answered it on that treat but it seems you missed it.
you can still buy the ips screen.

you must pic the Smartcard Reader Base for RGB LCD
and change the grapics card to one of the nvidias.
then you will see that it changed to the ips rgb panel in the monitor section (checked it right now on the uk site to be sure they dont changed it.)

here some detailed infos about the color gamut of the ips rgb panel.

Yes, I missed it earlier. Thanks for reposting your reply. Yes, I can see the smartcard base on the Dell France site, and yes when its selected the IPS option shows up.

Thanks also for the useful gamut volume comparisons (which are much more meaningful than 2d chromaticity diagrams). Looks like an excellent panel.

Anyone have this laptop with the AMD GPU? Wondering how battery life is and if there is any switchable graphics - maybe Mano_G or someone from Dell can chip in?

Mano has already confirmed no switchable graphics for AMD cards in the M4700/M6700.

can anybody say something to the gaming power of the m4700?
i know its a workstation and nobody did "serious" gaming with this laptop but i would be nice to know :)
maybe games like BF3 / COD or GTA IV?

    Thanks in advanced!
