ATI seems to do better on WEI than Nvidia. I had a $350 Radeon ( 7870 i think ) in a desktop recently that pulled 7.9 but i sent it back because it was giving me an occasional black screen. I replaced it with $230 or so Nvidia ( 560Ti ) and it only managed 7.2. I sent the Nvidia back as well because of the abysmal ( by desktop gaming card standards ) score. I then got Nvidia EVGA 670FTW ... and realized that i am quite happy with Intel HD4000 on that desktop so i sent it back as well without even opening it.

    LOL !

So maybe it was the fact that Radeon was latest generation and Nvidia previous generation ... or maybe ATI just benches well in WEI

But i do find it interesting that your ATI scored higher than my Nvidia in the M4700 even though the Quadro K2000M was at a significant price premium ... i wonder if it is the fault of Optimus.

WEI says HD4000 for graphics ... which card does your WEI list when it gives you the detailed results ?

somebody should post the procedure for working around Optimums to bench the dedicated graphics in WEI. i know Mano already said disable it in bios but it would be nice if somebody did it and reported the results LOL.

i'm waiting for K series Quadros to show up for the desktop ...

i think Nvidia vs ATI is a lot like Windows vs Mac. ATI and MAC may be better, but simply because of the quantities of Windows / Nvidia deployed they will inevitably be better supported. if Vista taught us anything is that hardware does not matter if the software is c4ap.

if you go to newegg and see the NUMBER of reviews for Nvidia and ATI cards you will see many times more people are getting Nvidia ... knowing this if you're developing software are you going to first optimize it for Nvidia or ATI ?

momentum is unfortunate reality of life here ... i think

in what little time i had to use the laptop i was left with a very positive impression of the quadro - it didn't give me a single problem and i didn't have to change drivers or anything and everything just worked as you expect.

even if it is really slower than the ATI for $350 more ( or whatever it was ) i still don't regret it. i don't care about graphics speed so much - i just care that everything works and is problem free. with the CPU i want speed, but with GPU i want stability / support.

Could you tell manufacturer and model number of the standard FHD TN panel in your M4700 ? Thanks in advance.

When windows runs the WEI it will only score the first video card. If optimus is enabled that will always be the integrated graphics, not the nvidia card. If you want a WEI score for the nvidia card (although in my opinion WEI scores really aren't a good indication of real world performance) disable optimus in the BIOS and run WEI again.

Its listing as SEC5448 in the hardware id, which I think is generic information. I'm not going to take the screen apart on this yet, sorry :) When I have time to get a good review up, I'll add pictures of the viewing angles. Or if you guys want, I can add up the parts that are done now later tonight.

So I had time to run a few benchmarks and play a few games. Counterstrike Source video stress test with everything maxed at 1080p comes in at around 60 fps. With the settings at suggested settings it gets over 200 fps. I also tried SWTOR. At 1080p the game hovers around 25-35 fps with all settings on high.

3DMARK11 doesn't seem to like the M4000 much rating it in the GT640M territory, but passmark's video test rates it much higher than the GT650M (It scored similarly to the Radeon HD 5770 or 6750 desktop card). I'll post up the full results when I have some more time.

received my swap system today. It's the same tint problem that was in my original system. Contacted Dell now through email, they really have to do something about that now, and fast.

That stinks. Does everyone have the issue or are there just a lot of defective panels?

I haven't had much time with the machine at all since I got it. I will probably not overclock it as its fast enough for all of my uses. After I get a chance to stress test it and see the temperatures, I'll consider it so I can tell you how it does.

Does anyone know if Virtu works with IVB? I'd like to install the HD4000 drivers as well to use quicksync.

Could someone with one already check this please?

I just read a review for the Lenovo W530 with a i7-3820QM here which says:

Does this apply the same way to the Dell Precisions? Even if you disable all energy saving / c-states etc, you are forced to run under half speed on battery?

My M4700 has the i7-3720QM, which is not the same processor you asked about but I did your test with it and I didn't have that issue, running on battery with any power settings and at idle, the processor was running at 1200mhz according to CPU-Z, but then if I started up a process, you can see the CPU speed in my picture at the bottom, it jumps up to 3400mhz.

Question, I installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my M4700, installed all the drivers, but when I plug in a headphone, it doesn't automatically switch from playing through the speakers to the headphones, if I change my audio output from Speakers / Headphones(IDT HDA) to Communications Headphones (IDT HDA) and then it'll start playing through the headphones but when you unplug the headphones, it won't play through the speakers, I gotta switch it back to the first option I mentioned... Anyone know whats wrong? Thanks!
