Just do be sure: Is there a locking mechanism for the lid? Because in the latest Dell Studios there isn't.

Yes, the lcd does lock in once you close it. Just press the usual front button to release.

Just called up Dell spare parts today (took me about 1.5 hours, they just kept transferring me back and forth) regarding the swapping of the lcd back cover to become the same as the Latitudes. Apparently the two are not swappable (M4400 and E6500) when it comes to the lcd covers. I was pretty sure there would be no problem since it was built on the same chassis. Guess I thought wrong. Oh well. :( I guess I'll use the money to buy myself one of those kinky Notebook X-Fi thingys.

Oh yes, my M4400 is coming this week sometime I hope. I managed to wrangle out an expedited service and pushed back the date from 17/10 to 8/9. OK OK so the overseas trip was a lie, but whatever it takes... ;)

I ordered mine 8/22/2008 and it has a ship date of 9/16/2008 in the confirmation email (hopefully it will come early). Can't wait to get it. I am blessed because I got mine at no cost to me. Our company has a Dell Premier account and I needed a new PC :) Below are the specs:

Mobile Precision M4400 Intel® Core 2 Duo T9400 (2.53GHz) 6M L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB, Genuine Windows Vista® Ultimate SP1, Dual 22" Dell LCDs, NVIDIA Quadro FX 770M, 512MB, 4.0GB, DDR2-800 SDRAM, 80GB Hard Drive, 7200RPM with Free Fall Sensor, 16 GB Solid State Express Drive (for ready boost), 8X DVD+/-RW, 802.11a/g/n, Dell Wireless® 370, 2x 500Gb External Hard Drives, Zalman ZM-NC1000 w/ two centrifugal fans 679 high capacity vent holes for cooling.

Can't wait to hook this guy up to my dual 22" LCDs
