Screen size is the biggest issue. I have both an E6410 and E6220, and the size of the E6220's screen is just too small. Nothing to do with resolution, it just feels cramped. If you go with the 1920x1080 screen in the E6220, it'll be microscopically small and even more cramped.

I had been thinking of replacing my E6410 with an E7440, but I don't think I will be happy with integrated graphics and an ultrabook CPU. The E6410 is still doing very well. :)

I used to use an E6230 and the screen could be very cramped. For me it *was* resolution rather than physical size, so as soon as Dell UK decide to sell an i7 E7240 with the 1080p screen I'll be taking a look at it.

The ultrabook CPU is occasionally noticeably slower than the CPU in my E6230, but it'll likely spank whatever is in your E6410 and I imagine the Intel 4400 graphics will be better than the rather sad NVidia effort on the E6410. It won't be a huge leap though!

In the end I found my E7440 a bit slow so I'm using a Precision M3800, and that's too big!

It's clock speed. My unofficial measurement is that when running scripts, the rate of scrolling lines of text is much slower. ;)

It wasn't a great chip in the E6410, but at least it's discrete. Integrated graphics noticeably struggles with multi-monitors when the CPU is busy.

My E6410 has been docked pretty much 99% of the time, so I'm probably going to replace it with a workstation. My secondary laptop, which is currently an E6220, will need to pick up some of the slack.

same noise from a couple of e7240s, strange, noticeable when the room is quite. exactly from the ram position.

disable wifi/radio and see if it still makes the noise...i hear something under the keyboard as well even on batteries..

I find my e7240 w/ 1920x1080 touch screen has some ghosting/retention...maybe its just more visible on my grey background that I use.

it's nothing to do with the wireless adapter, i mean the noise.

ips panels always have a little bit ghosting things.

Does anyone know if either the E7240 or the E7440 will support running 3 displays? Looking to do LCD + 2 DVI/DP displays connected to an E/Port Plus.

The Intel processor will support 3 active displays.

    ------

I wonder if anyone can find the 2.5mm bracket for 7mm 2.5" SSD now.. Can I put in one without it?

U won't find bracket for 7 mm drive - becauese 7mm is tight fit without the bracket.

The noise you are guys talking about is probably CPU high pitch noise - it's present in many laptops.
