That's crazy.. I had the exact same brainwave a couple of days ago... Switched over to a display port cable, and it fixed my problem.. I was only coming on here to update incase anyone else had the same problem and saw your post !!!! So party people that's the fix... Out of interest what screen do you have? I'm wondering if my U2412m has anything to do with it? As in perhaps it needs a firmware update.. I was previously using DVI-D... Anyway after downgrading the driver to an older ver, and it still doing it, i thought that maybe it wasn't a driver issue after all, and went for a different connection method. anyway alls well ends well.

I have an HP Compaq LA2405wg -- so not monitor specific it would seem. Must just be a bug in the video card driver related to the way it deals with DVI output (and apparently hits different code for outputting to DisplayPort :)).

And yup - glad you figured it out as well -- the laptop is much nicer to use when not having to dink around with fixing your display multiple times per day!

Is the version with the discrete graphics radeon 8690m already available? And what about the 1080p fhd touch screen?

I'm extremely tempted to buy that laptop. How does it compare to the 13" mbp? ( I certainly aren't a mac fan, never used it. But specs wise, it looks really good... )

By the way, I have a thinkpad edge 15 that totally needs to be renewed :) I'd also like to know how does the trackpoint on the Dell latitude series compare to that of Lenovo's? And is the middle trackpoint button assigned to a middle click function? I use that a lot for scrolling.

    thanks :)

    Hi all,
    Couple questions...
    • Has anybody confirmed that the WWAN/mSATA slot will indeed support mSATA? I saw a number of posts speculating on this point, but I don't think anybody confirmed.
    • And 7mm drives; I found a post on Dell's discussion forums where somebody stated that the standard hard drives that Dell supplies are 5mm drives with 2mm shims, so they put their 7mm SSD in the chassis without issue. Anybody else confirm this?

I'd sure like to take the OEM mSATA SSD out of the interposer and install it in the mSATA slot, install my (not-so-old) 7mm SSD in the HDD slot and have two SSD drives on board.

I can confirm that the WWAN/mSATA slot does indeed support mSATA. I removed the 256GB mSATA SED from the interposer in one of our E7440's and installed it into the WWAN slot and it booted. I haven't tried adding a second HDD to the 2.5" SATA slot yet, either with or without the interposer, but my guess is that would work, too. I plan on doing that as soon as I get my own E7440 with touchscreen in, as the ones I'm currently working on are slated to go to employees.

I think i have something similar now..

The screen doesnt shake, more looks like all the text/everything on screen goes wavy, like some form of cable interference or something..it will then go blank, then come back again a second later..

    Pretty annoying.

Have two screens, has done it more on one (5-6 times) as opposed to the other (once)

My employer has a 7440 ordered for me, one thing I noticed is the Wifi is the basic 1506 I believe, I've gone ahead and ordered the intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260HMW for $30, I was wondering if anyone (since it's relatively new probably not) but if anyone had swapped out the wifi card sucessfully...I don't see any problems myself.

I also noticed they ordered the basic screen :( oh well I can't really upgrade that myself :) I'll just dock/dual screen it.

    Hi,
A couple of things if anyone can help: -
Like with the e7440; can anyone confirm that the second WWAN/mSATA slot will indeed support mSATA drives in the e7240? We'd like to replace the shipped msata and put the original in the second slot.
Also has anyone got the 1080p touchscreen for the e7240? I can see it on Dell Premier pages now, what do you think of it? I'm worried that such a high resolution on a 12.5 inch screen is going to make everything far too small in Windows (icons/menus/text etc etc).
