I have a newly acquired E7440, which I very much like. Especially after having a dabble with the 6430u, this is a huge improvement.. no noticeable fan noise, an actual e-series dock connector on the underside, which the 6430u lacked, power and network at the back and not the side, once again which the 6430u lacked.

HOWEVER..... I am experiencing a very strange problem...

Downgraded my OS to Win7 64-bit.... Using an e-series dock and external Dell 24" LCD, The external and only external screen around every 2 hrs, goes into a weird analogue shake for about 2-3 seconds, before switching itself off. JUST the external screen. The laptop LCD stays on, and if the laptop isn't docked, then it'll stay on all day long without issue.. However if docked, every 2 or 3 hrs that weird shake comes on, then the screen goes off. To get it back, turning the power on and off on the actual lcd doesn't fix... Actually the only fix, is to either undock, or clone or extend the screen, then extend it back to how it should be... Having to do this every two or so hrs is becoming a pain.

I'm currently on 9.18.10.3220 of the Intel HD display driver, and there's no newer driver no the Dell site as such.. Also all power related / hibernate options to turn off the screen are set to off.

I know the dock isn't at fault, cos its fine with my other E6520 laptop.

Also i'm a tech, not a regular user.. As i said its a strange problem. Never really seen something similar after spending many many yrs setting up and playing with Dell laptops.. I'm guessing seeing that google hasn't come up with anything, that I'm probably the 1st with this prob? Hoping to find someone else with the issue.. Tried reporting it to Dell... But the tech chat was useless, and haven't found the time to make the long exhausting call yet to their CS.

Are you using Dell or Intel driver? Generic drivers tend to be problematic.

Is it a Windows 7 driver, or are you using the Windows 8 driver? Try uninstalling it and checking Windows Update.

Just out of curiosity: The screen of the 7440 has IPS? If so, then great.

Also, is everything fully user upgradeable? Also, is there mSata? Sorry if any of these questions have already been answered.

Running my E7440 via the external screen today, no laptop screen open, for the extended display, and so far, no screen going out.

    hopefully they fix this soon.

Will 7440 be available with AMD Radeon HD 8690M? That is mentioned in the specifications in "Owner's manual":

    Type integrated on system board

Controller: UMA Intel HD Graphics 4600
Discrete AMD Radeon HD 8690M Graphics

What do you mean, will e7540 be also released?

I believe there is a delay with touch-screens at the moment, might be up to another month wait...
