Which SSD are you planning to add? Can you confirm if the 2.5" bay is a 7mm or 5mm bay? I think a few posts back someone mentioned it is a 5mm bay which most SSD's would not fit.

I'm going to be putting in the mSATA 480GB Crucial M500 (CT480M500SSD3).

I was going to try and use the Samsung 840 EVO, but that is a 7mm drive :(

Call a sales rep and you should be able to get the configuration you want.

My sales rep was surprised when the Premier site offered me a fully customizable E7440. He said the fully configurable system isn't supposed to be available until later this month.

I tried an online Chat and they said No that's only available with Premier. I will try calling.

Edit: Urghh I can't believe it. Dell UK has the i7 8GB RAM model : http://www.dell.com/uk/business/p/latitude-e7440-ultrabook/fs

And it really isn't that much more expensive considering the better processor and higher RAM. Come on Dell US, let's do this!

In the UK they are currently offering only three fixed configs for the E7420 and E7440 with only minor variations possible - the 3G card for example. I bought a singular example so didn't get the best possible pricing, it was

    Latitude E7440
    Core i7-4600U
    14" FHD 1920x1080 screen
256GB mSATA SSD in an interposer (Samsung PM841)
    Fingerprint reader and smartcard reader
    8GB (1 x 8GB) RAM (Which I have now upgraded to 16GB without issue)
    4 cell 45W/HR battery
    Intel AC 7260 802.11ac 2x2 + Bluetooth 4.0 card
    Backlit keyboard
Windows 7 Pro + 8 Pro upgrade disc
    5570 HSPA+ 3G card
    5 year pro support
    5 year accidental damage cover

Cost was £1,218.18 GBP + VAT. It's basically the top spec on the Dell UK website but with the warranty and insurance upgrades. It's listed on the site as £1,446:50 + VAT so a 20% discount is easily available.

Wooho, called Dell and they were able to put in a i7 and 8GB RAM. I will put in a 2nd 8GB chip and make it 16GB RAM. Windows 7 Pro, NO TOUCH (yay) FHD. Was 500$ more than I hoped to pay for my laptop, but this does come with 3 year service and extended warranty.

Excited to try it out, supposed to get it Oct 21st.
