I did clean install right after I got this laptop. I used the same DVD to install windows at other laptops (different product keys) and they don't have any problems with it.

On microsoft's forums, people were advised to do reinstallations (dell recommended me to do this as well) but they keep getting the same problem EVEN without any program/driver installed after OS reinstall.

It's a hardware issue or driver issue. Doesn't mean a diagnostic is fine, that there is no problem. If you contact Dell, expect a new everything on your hardware which you will pass one by one...

What I suggest is to remove all peripherial attached to your computer including USB mouse, and remove your wireless, WWAN, bluetooth, etc.. cards out of your system (except RAM and HDD), even your optical drive. Now try your system if it still locks up, remove the devices drivers from your system on the devices you removed, and try again. If the problem is still there, now you know it's either the motherboard or RAM which causes the issue.

    My E6510 finally arrived.

Thanks Rumil for the links to create a USB Drive with the BIOS Update. The Update worked fine.

The docking station is a nice convenience, but... I'm finding the CPU temps run about 10 - 14C hotter with the laptop docked and the lid closed. Not good.

Would have been nice to have an HDD indicator on the outside of the laptop that is visible when the lid is closed/docked.

So don't close the lid? Otherwise, the docking station will raise the system up giving it better airflow, so the temps should stay the same or go down. Closing the lid is preventing some of the heat from escaping, and you don't get to use dual monitors.
