I am purchasing this model because I wanted a high quality 15" laptop with full HD that was lightweight and didn't get too warm. This will be a desktop replacement as well as the computer I use when travelling.

And for those of you wondering why I got the base 5,400 rpm hard drive, I plan to install an Intel SSD.

 

How do you think, what battery life could I expect from FullHD, Nvidia, i7-620m (dualcore) and 6-cell?

 

I'm expecting around 4-5 hours with general use (non-gaming) for the i5-540. The i7-620 should be about the same.

Dell has a $275 instant discount on the E6510. I placed my order today with expected delivery the first week of May.

 

Just ordered mine today. I'll report back when I get it - estimated ship date 5/5. $433 off

 

I ordered my system last week with an early May delivery.

I also plan to upgrade the Hard Disk to an Intel SSD. But, what physical size do I need to purchase, the 2.5 or the 1.8. I expect the 2.5, but want to make sure.

Anybody know for certain?

It's definitely 2.5". Dell offer a 500GB HDD option and that size is not available in 1.8".

Does anyone know if upgrading your Hard Drive void's any warranty with Dell?

 

You can change any hardware in your laptop with Dell and it won't void the warranty. But, that part that you added is of course not covered by Dell. Also, if the hardware that did not come with your laptop breaks something else, then that won't be cover as well.

The safe things to update is HDD, optical drive, wireless card, bluetooth card and RAM (assuming you get the correct memory with the correct voltage).

I saw a post over at Anandtech, and I think once I get my laptop in I'll have to order one of these LG blu-ray drives to see if it fits... For $141 vs. the $500 Dell wanted...wow.
