what is the expected battery life (years) of the E6400/6410 9 cell batteries?
how long do the 6/9 cell batteries hold in the E6400 with integrated graphics?

i just ordered a brand new E6410 (delivery time 3 weeks)with the NVS3100 chip and i'm unsure if it was the right decision to witht he 9 cell battery without extended battery coverage (3 years) or if it's better to go with the 6 cell one with extended battery service (3 years)

My 6 cell battery appears to have lost less than 10% of its capacity in 1 1/2 years. However, it isn't used on a daily basis. It's a backup for power cuts and for when I'm away from the mains.

Running time with the 6 cell battery and Intel graphics is around 6 hours with display brightness near the dim end and offline.

My system (see signature) with Vista 64-bit, has close to 9-hours of battery life using Dell extended battery feature on the laptop, using the 9-cell battery. You should a little bit more with the Intel integrated graphics (so 9hours and few minutes).

My laptop has been used on battery from Monday to Friday, recharged almost once day. It's been a year a half (December 2008 to today), and I have 2 hours and half to 3 hours of battery life, depending on what I do. I can stretch the battery and closing the screen (Fn+D keyboard keys) when I can, to extend my battery life more with Dell extended battery life feature

Please note that my for all my battery life, I use minimum brightness (which is pretty bright compared to many other laptop, thanks to it's LED backlit, keyboard backlit turned off, wireless ON, Trillian (instant messager) program running on the background all the time, no disk in optical drive, no mouse external attached, and using low power tasks such as typing notes during the system operation.

so your laptop runs for about 9 hours without power from the wall or 2-3?

i'mgoing to order the nvs3100 with the same LCD as you have so powerconsumption will be very similar

how long does your 9cell battery hold while browsing the internet with wireless lan on and low-mid brightness?

is it possible to quipe the e64xx with a HSDPA+HSUPA capable internal 3G modem (do they come with antennas?)

My E6400 is about a year old. The 6-cell battery still holds a bit more than 5 hours of charge, with brightness near bottom, wifi and bluetooth on, etc.

thanks for the input; i might get the 6 cell battery with extended battery service (3 years) instead so i can order a new battery once it drop below 60-70% and use a lighter notebook; i just had a look at the 90W dell power brick from my sisters XPS13 and it's much smaller than i thought :)

Wow. You guys had much better luck than me. My 6 cell was toast after a year and a half. Rarely on battery, it stays on AC power 99% of the time. It got where it wouldn't even last an hour.

i just found the 9cell battery new and genuine for 75€ shipped on ebay (from the UK) so i'll stick to the 6 cell one without extended warranty and order 9 cell battery if battery life is too short (only 20€ more + 2 batteries)

~9 hours when the battery was new (under Vista 64-bit)

~2-3 hours when on battery after a year and half (battery was not changed since I got the laptop, a year and half ago) (under Win7 64-bit)

Remember, I have the latitude E6400, not the E6410. So I don't know how much power the new Core i's and the new Nvidia GPU consumes battery.

Also I have the 5400RPM HDD.

My 6cell battery has worn off about 50% in 1.5 years at rather low usage. Got myself the additional slice-battery which gives me about 115Wh using both batteries. This way I can use the former 6cell, now rather 3cell battery, until it dies. The slice is something like an optional range extender. :D
