Unless you get them to maybe send over a totally new bezel and top replacement?

Just noticed the E6410 (update of our E6400) has the Nvidia Quadro NVS 3100M, which is about twice as powerful as our Nvidia Quadro NVS 160M. Man I'd love to be able to do a simple MXM upgrade to get that...

    EDIT -- As a minor consolation, 2000 posts :)

So after reading through the thread, I decided to contact Dell regarding my throttling issue and speaker grill. I decided to try my luck and use the chat option. So after spending a few minutes talking to the rep, it was concluded that I had a defective cpu and speaker grill. Unfortunately I decided not to go with on site repair and will have to send it in for repairs. I hope someone who has experience dell repair depot could give me a little input. I have heard stories in which the computer came back in a worse state than it went in, should I instead ask for the parts and fix it myself? I know that I should back up hard drive before sending it, but should I format my hard drive before sending it in? Lastly I have windows 7 and if by chance they do format my hard drive, is there a way in which I can get them to install windows 7. It would save me a step from having to do it once I get it back. Any input would be appreciated.

Call them and have 'em come by. Why would you choose to send it in? If you do, take out your HDD or make a disk image so you can just restore it.

This is probably a very stupid question, but....I seem to be having the throttling problem when running Firefox with multiple tabs open - the processor revs up to 80%+ constantly and computer is slow. I will try to clean the fan as a first step (as the fan runs on high all the time) - my (very stupid) question is, once I open up the bottom of the laptop, do I need to take out the fan itself or can i simply spray it with those bottled compressed air?

Also, is this perhaps a Firefox problem instead, that is causing the computer to run so slow somehow?

Try using the Flashblock add-on for Firefox to stop unwanted Flash (particularly animated adverts) from hitting your CPU. A few of them running on different tabs could well be fighting over the CPU. The Flash continues to run on both on pages in the background and even if you disconnect from the internet. I identified the Flash problem some years ago when investigating unexpected battery drain.

Unfortunately, I decided to go cheap when it came to the warranty. Instead of getting the on site warranty, I went with the basic. I figure I could always ask Dell to send me the parts when it came to something simple, like a hard drive replacement. Live and learn.

Ah ok, i thought the 3yr on-site warranty was a standard for Latitude and Precision models.

this doesn't sound like a throttling problem. you may want to uninstall and reinstall firefox, it might have gotten corrupted, or as John points out, it may be due to flash -- in which case use flashblock, adblock, or possibly uninstall and reinstall your flash plugin.

Does anybody have experience with the "Western Digital MyBook Studio II Edition" connected to the E6400 via eSATA?
If so, how does it do performance wise?

In general: I'm looking for a solid and fast external eSATA solution for backing up and also editing my pictures on that drive with Lightroom and Photoshop. (That, of course, should work well with my E6400 :) )
Any experiences/recommendations to share? (edit: 2,5 or 3,5 inch drives are okay)

    Appreciate it!
