Noise is the very first importance for me. So: is the fan REALLY quiet? With all i've read here, it's hard to believe. :-(

And, oh! Thanks for your first impressions and photos!

Keeping an open mind about it :D

If they can fix the buzz, flashing light, flex and explain what 70 euro buys for what now looks like some dual boot software which could easily be done for free with something like ubuntu linux.

Incidentally whats the memory commit charge like on vista's task manager ?

    Douki,

My study here has both a polished wooden floor and ceiling so I've always found that any noise carries easily which has made me very sensitive to any noise pollution perhaps more than most people.

starting at nearly one gigabyte? :D

@douki: the fan is always on i think, BUT you have to hold your ear beside the ventilation slot in order to hear anything. you hear that the notebook is on if it's really silent in the room, i mean deadly silent.
under pressure (80-100% cpu) the fan is hearable, but veeery moderate. 1,5-2m away and you hear nothing.

this is how it works under battery, i didn't try it plugged in.

i'm coming late to this thread..

but, have an X200 super spec'ed on order and just found the new E4300/4200 spec and i'm very tempted to cancel my order and get a Dell instead..

any idea on comparison of E4300 vs x300 or x200?

I think the X200 is the better offer but lacks the touchpad and optical drive. Sony Z has all of it but is more expensive than X200.

For US pricing E4300 is too expensive in my opinion. I'd take X200 and Sony Z over E4300.

In Europe the situation is slightly different because of the lower relative price of E4300 vs. X200 and Sony Z.

As many have already said. Don't take the "normal" dell prices as final. They are at least charging a 20% premium in the beginning. Just by calling them and negotiate, you will get a better price. You should calculate with that while comparing prices.

(In Sweden all other E-series laptops (not E4300/4200 yet) are already available with about 20% discount on their homepage)

    hi,

well in germany they increased the price from 949 EUR to 1262 EUR from yesterday to today for e4300. this is more than 30%. I don't think that this is competetive and so i will order an e6400. This is pretty strange!

    Hi,

I also saw the price change here in Germany, but it kept changing between the "new" and the "old" price. Now it's on 949 EUR again, but you have more options to costumize it (e.g. color). Maybe they just messed up the database. BTW the price for the e4200 also jumped from 1199 EUR to 1500 EUR and back...
