I've run Ubuntu 9.04 and Fedora 11 on my E4300, and it works almost flawlessly. The only issue I have is when docked and using an external monitor, the power settings make the monitor flash. If I shut the monitor off, and turn it back on, it stops. Go figure.

Before I purchased the e4300 I remember seeing a thread on here that detailed all the stuff that was preloaded to which could be deleted. I have searched and can't find it. Can someone point me to this thread.

are you talking about control point? I'd get rid of the wireless control as well as the security. The system one is fine (it controls the light sensor and backlight options), and you can just leave it off in the start up menu. F7 will bring it back on if you need it.

The topic is prob in the much more recent 4300 thread burried a few pages back. I'm not sure why this older one was bumped to the front.

    Hi guys,

I wanted to let you know that I posted two ideas on Dell's IdeaStorm website, which is kind of an official Dell forum for new ideas and suggestions.

IDEA #1 (link): offer a 2.5'' HDD caddy for the modular bay, instead of the 1.8'' HDD caddy currently on offer. For those who don't know, there's a thread describing how to use a Lenovo 2.5'' HDD caddy on a Dell Latitude or Precision. 2.5'' HDD's are faster, larger and much more standard in the laptop market.

IDEA #2 (link): make the fingerprint reader standard, so that we can use it without Wave's Embassy Trust Suite, and so that it will work with many applications requiring passwords (including Firefox, Email clients, etc). This will also allow it to be used with Win 7's built-in software.

If you agree with these ideas, follow their respective links and vote for them (and if you disagree, vote against them!). You will have to register on Dell's IdeaStorm website which is free and very painless (username, password and email only). In the past Dell has used many ideas posted by members of those forums and I think it is our best shot at having these ideas implemented in the future.
