    I experienced the same situation.
the warranty info told me my service tag doesn't has any associated warranty contract, but i did purchase 3 years w/ complete cover.

About the Latitude ON: check the discussion thread I linked in my first post (#35). There it says:

Still wondering whether this costs extra.

Have seen a few mac book pro's LED displays and they looked gorgeous - I know its a business class matte display but was hoping that for the price for something stunning - display is definitely an improvment over the D630 but I'd caution bragging around any Apple notebook owners :)

Noise is still there but heat seem to have gone away - i think all that background stuff was keeping the cpu cores running at a higher power level than was necessary.

Definitley begining to think that the default windows xp install is the source of most of the problems with this notebook - so much for the 40 euro xp downgrade (and no cd either!).

    Mcfils,

If you're feeling brave any chance of quick peek inside the memory bay to see if theres any card below the dimm sockets like the picture in the service manual?

No, but you need a software (100mb package from the Dell homepage) to get it work it think. I didn't synchronize it yet.

No electronic noises, no keyboard flex.
The small cover above the keyboard could have a better end with the chassis, but that's real minimastic. ;)

Until now i only worked with battery. The fan is quiet. Under stress it gets a bit noisier, but it's OK for me and I HATE NOISE. :)

I really don’t understand how Dell operates his business. In tech parameters you can find weight 1,5 kg, the reality is absolutely different, Latitude On etc. – no reliable information, … and that’s all for notebook, that is offered more then 2 weeks  .

I have ordered my E4300 18/9, confirmed day of delivery 29/9 without any acceleration (I have to leave abroad 15/10, so without any problem). When I asked this Monday about the situation, they answer that they have no keyboard and battery, so it is necessary to wait till 29/10  (order cancelled). Incredible behavior, but with Dell there is no surprise – 3 years ago there were 2 months from the confirmed delivery time of 1 week (payment in advance).

I have the only expectation that the actual crisis will cleanse the market, and the first winner is …

    Tizz,

In fact, answer is inside leaflet you posted previously.

There are two types of this technology:
    1. Latitude ON
    2. Latitude ON Reader

First is hardware Add-on mini-pci card, with independent processor, memory and embedded mini-linux system, and provide connection with internet, web, mail browser etc. This solution has less power consumption than normal processor and full system (vista, XP). According to official Dell infos it cannot read informations from HDD (for better security). Like another, super-micro laptop, using your screen, is sitting inside your E4300 ;) Even switch is smaller than main - LOL

Second is software, using on-board processor, which can read your (previously downloaded and stored on HDD) informations, like e-mails.
I have no idea if it can connect to internet, or only it is "viewer" of your HDD. Dell's information states it cannot.
    Can somebody confirm ?

First batches of the E4300 (and 4200 as well) are going with Latitude ON Reader technology AND NOTHING MORE. This is just additional software installed on your HDD.

    Here explanation from leaflet:
"Dell Latitude ON Reader is a scaled-back version of Latitude ON that can allow users to view cached e-mails, appointments, and contact information. Latitude ON Reader is integrated with Microsoft Exchange and utilizes the on-board Intel® processor to enable connectivity without performing a full system boot. However, Latitude ON Reader does not support Web access, and e-mail views do not allow editing, forwarding, or re-saving messages. Also, e-mail attachments are not accessible using Latitude ON Reader. Latitude ON Reader is available now, with Latitude ON planned to be available soon. Organizations that purchase Latitude ON Reader with Latitude E4200 or Latitude E4300 laptops can upgrade to Latitude ON once it is available."

Question is, will this upgrade cost extra money ?

BTW. I'm planning to purchase E4300 when they introduce L.ON /hw solution...

    cheers

    Kitir

Was just on the phone with talking to a rather pleasant scottish dell support tech - Apparently the e4300 is so new that they don't even have one yet !
Hopefully will have a result in the next day or so.

Mcfils do you have carpert or wooden floors - its all wood here with a 10 ft high ceiling which makes sound travel far !
