Can you also monitor the core temperatures using I8kfanGUI (http://www.diefer.de/i8kfan/). My main concern is the heat. Heat is unacceptable given the size of the laptop, and the fact it's going to not be on a desk and (notebook cooler) the vast majority of the time.

Notebookjournal measured 1,50kg. Another review measured less.

Prince_Phoenix I have SpeenFan 4.35 installed and it reports the following:

    HD0: 28C
    Core 0: 29C
    Core 1: 29C
    Temp1: 44C

I think the Temp1 is the ACPI heat sensor (motherboard ?)

That's not bad. That's pretty cool. My D820 averages 60. Anything below 50 is fabulous.

What would you rate the machine from 1-10 (ignoring the quality issues specific to the manufacturing process)?

    Sir Punk,

To be honest if the electronic buzz was fixed and I could get 9 to 10 hours of battery life like the sony tz series I could probably stomach the cost - the e4300 does feel like a first class machine let down by some assembly problems and a so so battery life.

I thought the added weight of a 6 cell battery (340 grams on my scales) would be offset by at least a very long battery life.

As it stands to get all day computing like some of the Sony TZ's I think you would have to add another 6 cell battery to get something like 11 hours but then that make the e4300 start to weigh more like the e6400.

    Prince_Phoenix,

I'd have ranked the d630 an 8.5/10 so if build issues (software bloat included) were not a problem AND if the price wasn't so high I might venture a possible 9/10 if were competing with a d630.

Incidentally I disabled the Alps point device driver and the touchpad lag disappeared.

I also managed to reduce boot time to 33 seconds by disabling everything in the msconfig startup screen.

Not sure if its a fluke but after I disabled all the cruft the notebook does seems to running noticably cooler. I can't feel much heat now on the underside of the chassis !

How do you like the feel of the keyboard, typing on it, compared to the D620?
