looks like the new intel boards will have the ability to switch between dedicated and integrated solutions to conserve battery life -- High-end Centrino 2 systems with discrete cards feature what Intel has dubbed "switchable graphics," technology that alternates between usage of integrated graphics and the discrete GPU to save power and extend battery life. - http://www.crn.com/hardware/209100230;jsessionid=MZ4XNZ1ENNJTMQSNDLPSKH0CJUNN2JVN?pgno=2

presumably this will include the e6500 -- can anyone confirm or deny this?

There hasn't been any mention of switchable graphics yet in the spec sheets that have been leaked, but who knows when Dell finally releases them.

Just because the Montevina platform supports switchable graphics, doesn't mean every notebook will have this option. My bet would be that Dell will eventually release a workstation to replace the Precision models that would carry this option.

given the articles out there, it seems like all high end models (of the intel board) will support this. the specs sheet was leaked before intel even made the announcement that switchable graphics were the newest thing. i may be wrong, but i would be very surprised not to see it on the e6500.

I'm wondering if GPS that Dell is promising will only be available with cell broadband plan. That's what Lenovo did..

The E series looks great on paper. Hopefully dell announces it soon! I also think it would be surprising to not see switchable graphics, but it's hard to tell since none of the current dell laptops have this function nor was it mentioned in the engadget leaks.

Not sure if this has been mentioned already but I got an email invite from Dell today to sit in on a web cast on July 29th for the intro of the E series. Official Launch date August 12th.

Maybe the delay is due to redesigning the E series to utilize ATI GPU's after the NVIDIA fiasco...
