Latitude 7480

Does anyone have an issue whereby it will not wake from sleep via the keyboard?

 

I never had any luck getting my 7480 to resume from sleep by touching keyboard or mouse/trackpad.

 

Has anyone here ever used their 7480 1920x1080 matte 7480 in sunlight or outdoors? Looks like one of the best outdoor ultrabooks on the market, with a high contrast, high brightness, and matte screen.

 

Hi All. Just got a used 7480, i7 7600U, 16G RAM, 256G SSD. When I put my machine to sleep (by pressing the power button, or closing the lid, or through Windows), it goes to sleep all right, but the power-button led goes dark entirely -- no blinking or "breathing". In effect, there is no way to tell the machine is in sleep mode, rather than off or hibernated. Is this standard behavior? Is there any way to change this? Thanks for your feedback.

 

Yes it’s standard, and no there unfortunately isn’t a way to change it. I suspect this change may have come from complaints about models like the XPS 13 that have their power LED mounted on an outside edge, where a pulsing LED in a dark room could be distracting. Of course that isn’t the case on the 7480, but Dell may have standardized their LED “design language” across their systems for branding or customer experience consistency. But I personally don’t like the change.

 

I think I recall my 7480 blinking/breathing when it was in standby. It would also resume when I opened the lid.

Install Dell Command Update, do a full install of the drivers, then do an update check of the drivers.

@jphughan, would you by any chance be able to provide a link to any documentation pertaining to this change you mention? My (admittedly brief) Google search yielded few results. This post does mention the possibility that recent Dell laptops use a sleep mode called "modern standby" (aka "connected standby" or "instantgo", codename "S0 Low Power Idle"). However, the output of the command powercfg /a shows my machine does not support this mode.

@mvalpreda, I am already running the latest driver versions, as provided by Dell's support page.

 

Gang, are these generally reliable in your experience? In terms of what the "factory" shipped, was the Optronics KW8T41 FHD panel the only FHD shipped? And what has been your experienced battery duration on full charge, normal kinds of work matters?

 

Highly reliable. Received a BOE FHD, seems to have some high frequency PWM, but overall not bad. Everything else on the machine is as good as it gets.

 

Powershare: is there a way at least to increase the percentage of the charge used to 100%? I think the default one is 50%.
I've the latest Bios, and I don't see any option to modify it, only ON-OFF.
Ideally it would be great if there is a way to have the USB always ON, even when the computer is off or into hibernation and no cable. Right now, it works only in Sleep mode, of Off with the power plugged.
Any way to achieve this, maybe a modded bios?
I still don't get this choice from Dell, to force a choice upon their users, rather than let them choose how to use their machine!
I'm often off-grid, so I need to use in some cases my laptop as a power bank for mobile phone, flashlight and camera
