The speed at my current place isn't that high, but the first 20 seconds that I downstreamed in the Firefox 64-bit browser is ok as well.

I've been using native Windows 10 Video Player and Inmatrix Zoom Player Max. Both carried out the playback with no issue.

I'm not sure which videocard did the job, as it's Nvidia technology that plugs the most capable videocard in if there is something heavy to deal with. I didn't specify which card to use via context menu.

I dont think so. They do not have that on E7450
I tried to install quickset and it says the system is not compatible.

Dell Command | Update is in the list and the others are not. Should I try them all?

Hm... Could you please take a look at my photos and say if it's better or worse than your bkl bleeding? Thanks. Seems like replacement might only worsen the situation.

By the way, low electrical noise has returned for me (which I thought turning off bluetooth fixes completely), it's well heard in a completely silent room and it stops when the fan turns on. Does anybody experience something like this? What components might be responsible for this effect?

More than that, I suddenly had a 'graphics driver has stopped responding and recovered' issue with the intel hd5500. This is how GPU on my previous HP laptop died. Not a good sign.

The last thing: I've read through John's review and this thread, but just to confirm - the second mSATA SSD is not supported by the WWAN slot?

Ok, that's weird, I also tried firefox 64 bit, and it's laggy, chrome 64 bit also.
But when I tried win10 native video player (Movies & TV), then everything is smooth, and processor load is very low, about 20% only.
But at the beginning I tried vlc player, it's a huge difference, cpu load is close to a 100% and video is laggy. I thought that vlc player is the best player there is, but unfortunatley not..

If ypu could try vlc player, I would be hugely appreciated..

I tried this and I have the same thing AND a lot of crappy green artifacts. But if you turn on hardware acceleration in the VLC options, it plays totally fine and CPU load is ~20-30%

4k video was handled smoothly in Chrome for me btw.

Ok, yes, when I changed hardware acc. in vlc to DirectX video accelration, then everything runs smotthly, and load is same (automatic or disabled options made it crappy), ty.

I couldn't say why, chrome or firefox don't run this as smoothly. 50 Mbps internet speed should be enough.
Btw, is hardware acc enabled in chrome or not? (I tried both, enabled and disalbed, result is the same).

Try them one at a time starting with the foundation services. You may need to reboot the computer to get all functionality working.

Backlight bleed should not be visible during normal usage but may be visible at the BIOS screen.

This might be CPU whine (actually coils or capacitors vibrating) which can occur when the CPU is idle when, coincidentally, the fan is likely to turn off.

If that's the latest driver then roll-back to the previous one. Is the driver installed by Windows or the most recent offered by Dell for the E7450? Graphics driver updates are issued quite frequently to improve compatibility / performance with new software but these updates sometimes break something else.

The E7450 WWAN slot is not mSATA but M.2 which, to confuse everyone, can have different interface arrangements (see here). A suitable SSD might work (early Dell documentation labelled the slot as WWAN/SSD, but the SSD is not shown on production boards. The slot itself is 3042. M.2 2242 SSDs exist and may physically fit (subject to the keying) but also need the right interface (possibly PCIe because it has been established that M.2 2242 SATA doesn't work). It may be the non-availability of suitable PCIe SSDs which caused Dell to not show SSD on the production boards rather than any inherent incompatibility. When the E7450 was being designed the SSD manufacturers were proposing to make 2242 PCIe SSDs but these haven't arrived (possibly because the power dissipation problems).

That sounds pretty realistic. So your CPU doesn't produce this noise in the same circumstances?

That's the latest driver installed with the Dell update software. For some reason I couldn't install drivers for hd5500 any other way (from Dell's site or from Intel's manually), it just threw an error at some point and refused to install.
The first time this error appeared when I closed a tab in chrome (there wasn't any significant load I think), the second time was when I played that 4k video withoud hardware accelleration if I recall correctly. On my old HP laptop GPU died after this error/message started to appear too often.

The situation with the second SSD is really confusing. It's quite a lot of info you provided, I'll try to dig in. Thanks a lot.

    @raul206
Sorry, seems like I didn't play the video for long enough. It begins to lag slightly around 17th second.
Hardware accelleration is turned on it seems, but I'm not completely sure. What flag did you use to enable/disable it?

I haven't noticed any noise but maybe my old ears aren't sensitive to it (but they are sensitive to fan noise). If I put an ear against the keyboard when the fan isn't running then I can hear some interesting noises that are a bit like weak morse code on the radio. The M3800 Precision had CPU whine problems which affected some users but not others. If you could identify a vibrating component then a dollop of PVA wood glue would probably silence it.

I've had a few of those driver errors (but none recently) which have gone away by either finding a newer driver or rolling back to an older driver. You can get the previous driver from the Dell support site.
Was the HP's GPU a member of the 8600M family which suffered premature death due to packaging problems. The only other reason I have come across for GPU failure is sustained running at the temperature limit (ie inadequate cooling).

It would be very unusual for the Intel GPU to have a hardware problem. The errors I have had on my E7450 have been with the Nvidia dGPU. However, make sure you are running the latest BIOS and also the Intel chipset software (packages such as Management Engine, Dynamic Platform and Processor Performance Control) because these may affect how the system interacts with the CPU/GPU.
